BLINDSPOT DETECTION WARNING: FALSE ACTIVATION

MODEL
G12 (7 Series Sedan)
Affected vehicles include SA337 (M sport package) or SA715 (M aerodynamic package) in combination with
SA5AT (Active Driving Assistant Plus) or SA5AS (Active Driving Assistant).

SITUATION
Driver Assistance system issues Blind Spot Detection warnings when no other vehicle is present:
Yellow triangle illuminated on the side view mirror housing.
Steering wheel vibration activated during lane change.
Short steering intervention during lane change after actuation of turn signal.
CAUSE
Incorrect detection of Blind Spot Warning sensor (HC2-sensor). The radar waves are incorrectly scattered
CORRECTION
Run diagnosis in ISTA 4 and follow the appropriate test.
Install an HC2 sensor shield, if not previously installed (see Warranty history).
PROCEDURE
For conditions that are similar to the situation described:
1. Run diagnosis with ISTA and work through corresponding test module for related fault codes in the
SWW system.
Did ISTA identify root cause?
YES – follow diagnostic recommendations.
NO – Obtain sensor shield (detailed in parts list below), then continue to step 2.
2. Remove the rear bumper panel following repair instructions REP
5112156 – removing and installing rear bumper panel.
3. Install the sensor shield as shown in the picture.
This sensor shield prevents the incorrect scattering of the radar
signals at the rear bumper, which causes false warnings.
4. Reassemble the vehicle and retest.
