pumpingsystem,thefollowingsafety
precautionsmustbeobservedatall
times:
1. Readallmanuals
includedwiththis
productcarefully.Be
thoroughlyfamiliar
withthecontrolsand
theproperuseoftheequipment.
2. Followalllocalelectricalandsafety
codesaswellastheUnitedStates
NationalElectricalCodes(NEC)and
OccupationalSafetyandHealthAct
(OSHA).
3. Onlypersonswellacquaintedwith
theserulesofsafeoperationshould
beallowedtousethecompressor.
4. KeepvisitorsawayandNEVERallow
childrenintheworkarea.
5. Wearsafetyglassesandusehearing
protectionwhenoperatingtheunit.
6. Donotstandonorusetheunitasa
handhold.
7. Beforeeachuse,inspect
compressedairsystemandelectrical
componentsforsignsofdamage,
deterioration,weaknessorleakage.
Repairorreplacedefectiveitems
beforeusing.
8. Checkallfastenersatfrequent
intervalsforpropertightness.
Motors,electrical
equipmentandcontrols
cancauseelectricalarcs
thatwilligniteaflammablegasor
vapor.Neveroperateorrepairinor
nearaflammablegasorvapor.Never
storeflammableliquidsorgasesin
thevicinityofthecompressor.
Never
operate
compressorwithout
abeltguard.Thisunit
canstartautomatically
withoutwarning.Personalinjury
orpropertydamagecouldoccur
fromcontactwithmovingparts.
9. Donotwearlooseclothingor
jewelrythatwillgetcaughtinthe
movingpartsoftheunit.
Compressorpartsmay
behoteveniftheunitis
stopped.
10.Keepfingersawayfromarunning
compressor;fastmovingandhot
partswillcauseinjuryand/orburns.
11.Iftheequipmentshouldstart
tovibrateabnormally,STOP
theengine/motorandcheck
immediatelyforthecause.Vibration
isgenerallyanindicationoftrouble.
12.Toreducefirehazard,keepengine/
motorexteriorfreeofoil,solvent,
orexcessivegrease.
AnASMEcode
safetyreliefvalve
withasettingnohigherthan
200psifortwo-stagecompressors
or150psiforsinglestage
compressorsMUSTbeinstalled
intheairlinesorinthetankfor
thiscompressor.TheASMEsafety
valvemusthavesufficientflow
andpressureratingstoprotect
thepressurizedcomponentsfrom
bursting.Theflowratingcanbe
foundinthepartsmanual.The
maximumsafepressureratingfor
thepumpis200psi(two-stage)or
150psi(singlestage).Thesafety
valveintheintercoolerdoesnot
providesystemprotection.
Maximum
operating
pressureis175psifortwo-stage
compressorsand135psiforsingle
stagecompressors.Donotoperate
withpressureswitchorpilot
valvessethigherthan175psi
(two-stage)or135psi(single
stage).
13.NeverattempttoadjustASME
safetyvalve.Keepsafetyvalve
freefrompaintandother
accumulations.
Never
attempttorepairor
modifyatank!Welding,
drillingoranyother
modificationwillweakenthetank
resultingindamagefromrupture
orexplosion.Alwaysreplaceworn,
crackedordamagedtanks.
14.Tanksrustfrommoisturebuild-up,
whichweakensthetank.Make
suretodraintankregularlyand
inspectperiodicallyforunsafe
conditionssuchasrustformation
andcorrosion.
Drainliquidfrom
tankdaily.
15.Fastmovingairwillstirupdust
anddebriswhichmaybeharmful.
Releaseairslowlywhendraining
moistureordepressurizingthe
compressorsystem.
SPRAYINGPRECAUTIONS
Donot
spray
flammablematerialsin
vicinityofopenflameornear
ignitionsourcesincludingthe
compressorunit.
16.Donotsmokewhensprayingpaint,
insecticides,orotherflammable
substances.
17.Useafacemask/
respiratorwhen
sprayingandsprayina
wellventilatedareato
preventhealthandfire
hazards.
18.Donotdirectpaintorothersprayed
materialatthecompressor.Locate
compressorasfarawayfrom
thesprayingareaaspossibleto
minimizeoversprayaccumulationon
thecompressor.
19.Whensprayingorcleaningwith
solventsortoxicchemicals,follow
theinstructionsprovidedbythe
chemicalmanufacturer.
Installation
Disconnect,tagandlock
outpowersourcethen
releaseallpressurefrom
thesystembeforeattemptingto
install,service,relocateorperform
anymaintenance.
Donotliftor
moveunitwithout
appropriatelyratedequipment.Be
suretheunitissecurelyattachedto
liftingdeviceused.Donotliftunit
byholdingontotubesorcoolers.Do
notuseunittoliftotherattached
equipment.
Neverusethe
woodshipping
skidsformountingthecompressor.
Installandoperateunitatleast
24inchesfromanyobstructionsin
aclean,wellventilatedarea.The
surroundingairtemperatureshould
notexceed100°F.Thiswillensure
anunobstructedflowofairtocool
compressorandallowadequatespace
formaintenance.
