MERCURY FLAME SENSORS
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
PRECAUTIONS
THIS CONTROL MUST BE INSTALLED BY A QUALI-
FIED INSTALLER.
All wiring must conform to local and national electrical
codes and ordinances.
This control is a precision instrument, and should be
handled carefully. Rough handling or distorting compo-
nents could cause the control to malfunction.
Do not use on circuits exceeding specified volt-
ages. Higher voltages will damage control and
could cause shock or fire hazard.

FAILURE TO READ AND FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY
BEFORE INSTALLING OR OPERATING THIS CONTROL COULD CAUSE
PERSONAL INJURY AND/OR PROPERTY DAMAGE.
DESCRIPTION
Mercury flame sensors are used on gas-fired heating
equipment to prevent the flow of gas to the main burner if
the pilot flame or other ignition source is insufficient to
properly ignite the main burner. Some of the sensors are
designed for use with the White-Rodgers gas valves
having a plug-in receptacle. Electrical connections are
made by plugging the sensor into the receptacle. Other
types have quick-connect terminals for connection of field
wiring.
ATTENTION!
This product contains mercury. There will not be any exposure to mercury under normal conditions of use. This product may
replace a unit which contains mercury. Do not open mercury cells. If a cell becomes damaged, do not touch any spilled
mercury. Wearing nonabsorbent gloves, take up the spilled mercury with sand or other absorbent material and place into a
container which can be sealed. If a cell becomes damaged, the unit should be discarded. Mercury must not be discarded in
household trash. When this unit or the unit it is replacing is to be discarded, place in a suitable container and return to us .
To prevent electrical shock and/or equipment
damage, disconnect electric power to system at
main fuse or circuit breaker box until installation
is complete.
Shut off main gas to heating system until installa-
tion is complete.
Label all wires prior to disconnection when ser-
vicing controls. Wiring errors can cause improper
and dangerous operation.
Following installation or replacement, follow ap-
pliance manufacturer's recommended installa-
tion and/or service instructions to insure proper
operation.
Operator: Save these instructions for future use!

WARNING
!
CAUTION
!
These flame sensors are not universal replacements.
Each flame sensor type has been designed for a specific
application and voltage. They can replace only the iden-
tical type in applications where it was originally installed
by the equipment manufacturer. If the mercury flame
sensor is not the same type number as the one being
replaced, contact the original equipment manufacturer
(OEM) for a suggested replacement.
