OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
10. Plunge Cutting
Your reciprocating saw is ideal for plunge cutting
directly into surfaces that cannot be cut from an
edge, such as into walls or oors. Plunge cutting
may be performed two ways, depending on how
the blade is installed.
WARNING
Do not plunge cut into metal surfaces.
a. Disconnect the saw from the power supply.
b. Make sure that the workpiece is rmly clamped
in place.
c. Use the appropriate type and size of blade for
the workpiece material and size.
d. Insert the blade into the tool.
e. Adjust the base shoe (A) as necessary to
make sure that the blade will extend beyond the shoe and the workpiece at all times.
f. Adjust the base shoe as necessary to expose unworn blade teeth for longer blade life.
g. Set the speed range as suitable for your application. The appropriate speed will vary with
different applications.
h. Check for clearance behind the workpiece so that the blade will not impact another
surface.
i. Connect the saw to an electrical outlet.
j. Hold the tool rmly, resting the edge of the base shoe on the workpiece.
k. With the blade just above the workpiece, press the variable-speed trigger switch (H) to
start the saw and allow it to come to desired cutting speed.
l. Use the edge of the shoe as a pivot and raise the gripping handle of the tool slowly to
plunge the blade into the workpiece until the shoe rests rmly on the workpiece.
m. After the blade has penetrated through the workpiece and the shoe is resting on the
workpiece, continue sawing along the marked cutting line.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of explosion, electric shock and property damage, always check the work
area for hidden gas pipes, electrical wires or water pipes when making blind or plunge cuts.
To avoid loss of control and serious injury, make sure that the blade reaches maximum speed
before touching it to the workpiece.
