Overview

This document is an Operator's Manual for the New Holland Powerstar™ series of tractors, specifically models 90, 100, 110, and 120. It covers various aspects of the tractor's operation, safety, maintenance, and specifications.

General Information

The manual begins with general information, including a note to the owner emphasizing the importance of reading and understanding the manual for safe and efficient operation. It highlights that the tractor is a reliable machine designed for high performance and long-lasting service, provided it is maintained and used correctly. Operators are advised to keep the manual in the operator's compartment for immediate reference.

The document also stresses the importance of contacting a NEW HOLLAND dealer for general operating instructions, service, and genuine spare parts. It provides a section to record the model and product identification number (PIN) of the machine.

A crucial warning symbol is introduced, alerting users to potential personal injury hazards. It explicitly states that illustrations may show protective shielding open or removed for clarity, but all shields must be replaced before operating the machine to prevent death or serious injury.

The manual emphasizes that the machine is designed and built to the highest quality and safety standards, but accidents can never be completely excluded, necessitating adherence to safety rules. It warns against using the machine for purposes other than those described and advises against any modifications not approved by the manufacturer, as this could invalidate conformity with safety requirements. Regular inspections by an authorized dealer are recommended.

The manual includes an "Engine tampering statement," strictly prohibiting tampering with the fuel system, exhaust after-treatment system, and engine, as these are designed to government emissions standards. Violations can lead to fines, rework charges, invalid warranty, legal action, and potential confiscation. Engine service and repairs must be performed by a certified technician.

Intended Use

The tractor is designed to pull, carry, and power a variety of mounted or towed equipment within physical limits. Performance can vary based on weather and terrain. Users are advised to contact their dealer if performance degrades.

Key precautions for intended use include:

  • Purpose: Do not use the tractor for purposes other than those intended by the manufacturer.
  • Terrain and Stability: Do not exceed terrain gradient and stability limits to prevent roll-over or tip-over.
  • Speed and Load: Adapt travel speed to load and environment, especially on wet or low-adherence surfaces, to avoid increased braking distance or instability.
  • Hazardous Areas: Avoid soft verges of canals, brooks, banks, or undermined areas where the tractor could sink or roll over.
  • Crossings: Inspect the condition and carrying capacity of unstable crossings or bridges before use.
  • Equipment Compatibility: Ensure mounted equipment is correctly matched, firmly fixed, and approved by the manufacturer to prevent roll-over. Verify three-point linkage and PTO shaft dimensions comply with ISO 730 standards.
  • Operator's Manuals: Consult the specific Operator's Manual for any equipment used with the tractor.
  • Pulling Work: Exercise caution when pulling loads with unknown yield (e.g., stumps) to prevent the tractor from flipping over.
  • Center of Gravity: Be aware that loads on the front-end loader or three-point linkage can raise the center of gravity, increasing roll-over risk.
  • PTO Operation: Do not dismount without shutting down the PTO, shifting to park/neutral, and applying the park brake, unless continuous PTO operation is required for equipment with its own emergency stop device.
  • Bystanders: Always be aware of bystanders, especially in confined areas. Keep people away from the tractor during work, as ejected objects from equipment can cause harm. Exercise caution near public roads or footpaths.
  • Riders: Do not allow riders on the tractor or people to stand on access steps while the tractor is moving, as this obstructs the operator's view and poses a fall risk.
  • Operating Area: Stay clear of implements' operating areas, especially between the tractor and trailed vehicles when operating lift controls.
  • Software: Do not modify or download uncertified software, as this can destroy electronic settings, affect tractor functioning, and lead to unpredictable/unsafe behavior. Always consult your dealer.
  • Safety Sensors: Do not bypass safety sensors, as this exposes the operator to serious hazards and unpredictable tractor behavior.
  • Operator Station: The tractor is a one-man operated vehicle. No other people are needed on or around the tractor during normal operation.

Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC)

The manual addresses Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC), warning that add-on equipment not meeting required standards can cause serious malfunction or unsafe situations. Users must observe the following:

  • Emission Power: Maximum power of emission equipment (radio, telephones, etc.) must not exceed national authority limits.
  • Electro-Magnetic Field: The electro-magnetic field generated by add-on systems must not exceed 24 V/m at any time or location near electronic components.
  • Interference: Add-on equipment must not interfere with the functioning of on-board electronics. Failure to comply with these rules will void the NEW HOLLAND warranty.

The manual details the various controls and instruments, categorized for easy reference:
