1.Whenapacketissentformusernetwork1tothecustomerportofswitchA,because
thePORTBASEVLAN-basedcustomerportdoesnotidentifythetagwhenreceiving
thepacket,thecustomerportprocessesthepacketasanuntaggedpacketnomatter
whetherthisdatapacketisattachedwiththeVLANtagornot.Thepacketisforwarded
bytheVLAN10,whichisdeterminedbythePVID.
2.TheuplinkportofswitchAinsertstheoutertag(VLANID:10)whenforwardingthe
datapacketreceivedfromthecustomerport.Thetpidofthistagcanbecongured
ontheswitch.InsidetheISPnetwork,thepacketisbroadcastalongtheportofVLAN
10untilitreachestheswitchB.
3.SwitchBndsoutthattheportconnectedtousernetwork2isacustomerport.Thus,it
removestheoutertagincompliancewiththeconventional802.1Qprotocoltorecover
theoriginalpacketandsendsthepackettousernetwork2.
4.Inthisway,databetweenusernetwork1andusernetwork2canbetransmitted
transparently.TheVLANIDoftheusernetworkcanbeplannedregardlessofthe
conictwiththeVLANIDintheISPnetwork.
