Modem module
NOTE: The modem module spare part kits do not include a modem module cable. The modem module
cable is included in the Cable Kit, spare part number 486281-001.

Before removing the modem module, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the
computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and
then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery (see

5. Remove the following components:
a. Hard drive (see

b. Optical drive (see
Optical drive on page 57)
c. Keyboard (see
Keyboard on page 63)
d. Switch cover (see
Switch cover on page 67)
e. Display assembly (see
Display assembly on page 76)
f. Top cover (see
Top cover on page 83)
g. ExpressCard board (see
ExpressCard board on page 88)
h. Audio board (see
Audio board on page 89)
Remove the modem module:
1. Turn the audio board upside down, with the audio connectors toward you.
2. Remove the two Phillips PM2.5×3.0 screws (1) that secure the modem module to the audio board.
NOTE: The audio board cable ground loop (2) is secured by the modem module rear screw.
