Engine Care
Alistofkeyenginemaintenancejobsrequiredforgood
performancebythemowerisgivenbelow.Followthe
accompanyingenginemanualforadetailedlistandinstructions.
• Maintainoillevelasinstructedinenginemanual.
• Serviceaircleanerandcarboncanisterfilterevery25hours
undernormalconditions.Cleaneveryfewhoursunder
extremelydustyconditions.Poorengineperformance
andfloodingusuallyindicatesthattheaircleanershould
beserviced.Toservicetheaircleanerandcarboncanister
filter,refertotheenginemanual.
• Cleansparkplugandresetthegaponceaseason.Spark
plugreplacementisrecommendedatthestartofeach
mowingseason.Checkenginemanualforcorrectplug
typeandgapspecifications.
• Cleanengineregularlywithaclothorbrush.Keepthe
topoftheenginecleantopermitproperaircirculation.
Removeallgrass,dirt,andcombustibledebrisfrommuffler
area.
•
Enginesstoredbetween30and90daysneedtobetreated
withagasolinestabilizersuchasSTA-BIL® toprevent
deteriorationandgumfromforminginfuelsystemoron
essentialcarburetorparts.
Deck Wash
Yourmower’sdeckisequippedwithawaterportonitssurfaceas
partofitsdeckwashsystem.
Usethedeckwashtorinsegrassclippingsfromthedeck’s
undersideandpreventthebuildupofcorrosivechemicals.
CompletethefollowingstepsAFTEREACHMOWING:
1. Pushthemowertoalevel,clearspotonyourlawn,near
enoughforyourgardenhosetoreach.
CAUTION: Makecertainthemower’sdischarge
chuteisdirectedAWAYfromyourhouse,garage,
parkedcars,etc.

Threadthehosecoupler(packagedwithyourmower’s
Operator’sManual)ontotheendofyourgardenhose.
3. Attachthehosecouplertothewaterportonyourdeck’s
surface.SeeFigure6-2.

4. Turnthewateron.
5. StarttheengineasdescribedintheOperationsection.
6. Runtheengineforaminimumoftwominutes,allowing
theundersideofthecuttingdecktothoroughlyrinse.
7. Releasebladecontroltostoptheengineandblade.
8. Turnthewateroffanddetachthehosecouplerfromthe
waterportonyourdeck’ssurface.
Aftercleaningyourdeck,restartthemower.Keeptheengine
andbladerunningforaminimumoftwominutes,allowingthe
undersideofthecuttingdecktothoroughlydry.
