Installation procedure
30 CBC-8000 capacitor bank control installation and operation instructions MN916001EN—October 2018 Eaton.com
To install the security sleeve:
1. Open the CBC-8000 control door.
2. Loosen the two thumb screws and open the front panel.
3. On the bottom of the CBC-8000 control enclosure, mark
the locations to drill each of the four holes required to
mount the cable security sleeve.
Note: The cable security sleeve must cover the cable
connectors and allow room for the temperature
sensor so that the sensor does not interfere with the
installation.
4. Using the 7/32 inch bit, carefully drill each of the four
holes.
5. Align the studs on the cable security sleeve with the
holes in the enclosure and confirm that the cable
security sleeve sits flush against the enclosure.
6. The DIN cable or other cables will need to be routed
through the cable security sleeve and connected to the
control before the cable security sleeve is permanently
mounted to the control.
7. Route the cables through the cable security sleeve.
8. Connect the DIN cable or other cables to the control.
9. Slide the cable security sleeve over the cable
connections and bring it tight against the enclosure.
10. Install a star washer onto each of the four studs for the
cable security sleeve.
11. Install a wing nut onto each of the four studs for the
cable security sleeve and tighten.
12. Close the front panel and tighten the two thumb screws.
Storm trapper installation
Eaton recommends installing the optional Storm Trapper™
High Energy (H.E.) low-voltage distribution-class MOV surge
arrester between the line and the earth ground for the CBC-
8000 control.
The Eaton part numbers for the surge arresters that are
recommended for use with a CBC-8000 control are shown in
Table 6
Storm Trapper H.E. arresters are designed with a full 40 kA
surge withstand capability. This superior energy handling
ability assures long service life even in the most severe
service conditions.

distribution-class MOV surge arrester
As shown in Figure 35, the surge arrester black lead is
connected to Line and the white lead is connected to Earth
Ground.
Refer to the documentation provided with the storm trapper
surge arrester for detailed installation instructions.
