13. FUEL SYSTEM
Needle, spring, lever and lever pivot
inspect the tip of the needle with a magnifying glass
to verify its integrity and detect any signs of wear;
replace if necessary;
check the sprIng for signs of damage or distortion,
and replace if necessary;
inspect the lever and the pivot, replacing if
necessary.
IMPORTANT:
A worn needle cannot be serviced with satisfactory
results!
A worn tip can case the machine to malfunction; if there
is any doubt whatever as to the state of the needle, the
best course of action is to replace all the components
and pressure-test the carburetor.

14. CARBURETOR TUNING
Correct tuning of the EPA 3 version brushcutter, with limiter caps (caps locks) on the jets L & H.
The jets are factory set by Emak to comply with the directives.
With the caps lock tted the jets L & H have only 1/4 turn of adjustment, necessary when working
in altitude
Carburetor: Walbro WT 1041
The Jets have the following factory registration:
L = 2 + 1/4 ± 1/8
H = 1 + 1/2 + 1/8 ± 1/8
When following a repair or engine overhaul, you are obliged to re-tune the carburetor to it’s original
setting.
Our method is:
1) Remove the caps locks from the carburetor jets;
Idling adjustment (L)
2) Start he unit and warm up for 60 seconds, accelerating and decelerating (do not take the unit
to full throttle no load);
3) Close the L jet until the maximum number of rpm is reached (stop rotating the jet before the
rpms drop or the unit stalls);
4) Before proceeding with the carburetor’s tuning, check the maximum RPM is not more than (with
blade or nylon head with max 5 cm of nylon line): 9700/10100 RPM
5) Adjust the T screw until the unit reaches an idle rpm between 3700/4000 RPM
6) Open the jet L until rpm drops to between 3000/3200 RPM
Maximum adjustment (H)
7) Adjustment of the jet H for wide open throttle operation with blade or nylon head with max 5 cm
(2”) of nylon line: 10000/10200 RPM
8) Block the new caps L & H with new caps.
