Overview

This document serves as a "Getting Started" guide for the Frigidaire Gas Range, providing essential information for initial setup, operation, and basic maintenance. It's designed to help users quickly become familiar with their new appliance.

Function Description

The Frigidaire Gas Range is a kitchen appliance designed for cooking food using both a gas cooktop and a gas oven. The cooktop features multiple burners for various cooking tasks, while the oven offers different modes for baking, broiling, and quick baking.

The cooktop allows for cooking with open flames, requiring users to select appropriate cookware with flat bottoms for direct contact with the burner grates. Different burner sizes are available for various heat levels and pan sizes, from small amounts of food in small pans to large pots of liquid. The appliance emphasizes the importance of setting the flame size appropriately for the pan to prevent flames from extending beyond the outer edge.

The oven provides several cooking functions:

  • Bake: Ideal for foods that require gentle, even heat to rise and cook.
  • Quick Bake: Utilizes a fan to circulate heat uniformly and continuously, speeding up the baking process.
  • Broil: Designed for broiling and grilling foods under direct, high heat.

Beyond cooking, the range also includes features for self-cleaning and maintenance.

Usage Features

The guide walks users through the initial setup and operation:

Before You Start:

  • Cooktop Setup: Users are instructed to ensure burner caps are centered and cooking grates are in place.

  • Setting the Clock: This is a simple process: press "Set Clock" once, then within 5 seconds, press and hold the up (∧) or down (V) arrow keys to select the correct time.
  • First Use: Before cooking, the oven should be set to bake at 350°F for about 30 minutes. It's normal to experience some noises and smoke during this initial "settling in" period.

  • Cooktop not working: Suggests checking if the gas supply lever was left off during installation.
  • Noises during cooking: Explains that expansion and contraction due to temperature changes, clicking controls, and fan operation are normal.
  • Oven performance different from old one: Recommends testing and adjusting cooking times/temperatures, and consulting the Use & Care Guide for bakeware and cooking recommendations.
  • Oven smoking during broiling: Advises placing food further from the element and broiling with the door closed to prevent excessive smoke and burning.
  • Propane conversion kit: Informs users that kits are available on Frigidaire.com and should be installed by a qualified professional.

Maintenance Features

The guide emphasizes the importance of quick and ongoing care for the range:

  • Cooktop Cleaning: Recommends cleaning with warm water and mild soap, or using Frigidaire ReadyClean™ cleaners. Keeping burners clean is crucial for a complete, even, and perfect flame. Detailed instructions are available in the Use & Care Guide.
  • Oven Cleaning: The oven offers both "Steam Clean" for light soils and "Self Clean" for more thorough cleaning.
  • Spill Management: Users are reminded to clean up spills quickly to prevent buildup on burners.
  • Aluminum Foil Warning: Explicitly states not to use aluminum foil or any other materials to line the cooktop or any part of the oven.
