WARNING Always provide a separate transformer for EXP/AXM unit power
and EXP/AXM BO power. Powering BOs and the EXP/AXM unit from the
same power supply will cause interference and may damage the EXP/AXM.
Low voltage threshold An EXP/AXM will shut down all function when supply
power drops below 18 VAC. Normal operation resumes when supply power rises
above 20.5 VAC.
Transformer sizing
The transformer(s) that provide unit power to the VLX and EXPs/AXMs, as well
as the transformer(s) that provide EXP/AXM BO or VLC power, must be
adequately sized.
For VLX and EXP/AXM unit power, the Nameplate VA rating of the
transformer must be at least 125% of the sum of the unit maximum load ratings
on the unit covers. For VLC and BO power, the Nameplate VA rating of the
transformer must be at least 125% of the BO maximum load rating listed on the
unit covers.
Example The application consists of:
• 1 VLX
• 1 EXP-10120
• 1 AXM-1048
• 1 AXM-2200

1. Find the unit power rating on the VLX and EXP/AXM covers. For the
VLX, this is listed as “POWER: VLX MAX LOAD.” For EXPs/AXMs,
this is listed as “POWER: AXM MAX LOAD.”
2. Add the power required by all devices
3. Multiply by a 25% safety factor:
80VA X 1.25 = 100 VA
