Questions and Answers

Overview

This document serves as a comprehensive guide for the Hotpoint dishwasher, covering its functions, usage, and maintenance.

Product Description

The Hotpoint dishwasher features an intuitive design with a control panel and various internal components for efficient dishwashing. The appliance includes an upper rack, cutlery rack, foldable flaps, and an upper rack height adjuster for flexible loading. The spray arms (upper and lower) ensure thorough water distribution, while the filter assembly collects food residues. Essential reservoirs for salt, detergent, and rinse aid are easily accessible. A rating plate provides service information, and the control panel offers a range of buttons and indicators for program selection and monitoring.

The control panel includes an On-Off/Reset button, program selection, Zone Wash 3D/Keylock, Eco program indicator, Keylock indicator, and a display showing program number and remaining time. Additional indicators include Tablet (Tab), closed water tap, Rinse Aid refill, and Salt refill. Buttons for Short Time/Tablet (Tab), Delay, and Start/Pause/Drain out complete the interface.

First Time Use

Before initial use, it's crucial to remove stoppers and elastic elements from the racks. The salt reservoir, located in the lower part of the dishwasher, must be filled to prevent limescale formation. To do this, remove the lower rack, unscrew the cap, and fill with water (first time only) and approximately 1 kg of dishwasher salt using the provided funnel. Ensure the cap is screwed on tightly. The water hardness setting is vital for the water softener's performance. This can be adjusted by switching the appliance on and off, holding the Start/Pause button for 5 seconds, then switching it on again and pressing the 'P' button to select the desired hardness level from the Water Hardness Table.

The rinse aid dispenser, located on the inner door, should be filled when the Rinse Aid Refill indicator light is on. Open the dispenser, pour in up to 110 ml of rinse aid, and close the lid. The dosage of rinse aid can be adjusted if drying results are unsatisfactory, following a similar procedure to water hardness adjustment.

The detergent dispenser is designed for dry detergent only. Open the dispenser, add the appropriate amount of detergent, and close the lid until it clicks. For all-in-one detergents, the Tablet button should be used to optimize the program.

Programs Table

The dishwasher offers a variety of programs tailored for different needs:

  • Eco: Suitable for normally soiled tableware, optimizing energy and water consumption.
  • Auto Intensive: An automatic program for heavily soiled dishes and pans.
  • Auto Mixed: An automatic program for normally soiled pans and dishes.
  • Auto Fast Wash: For limited quantities of normally soiled crockery, ensuring optimal cleaning in shorter time.
  • Delicates: For delicate items sensitive to high temperatures, such as glasses and cups.
  • Rapid 30': For half loads of lightly-soiled dishes with no dried food residues, without a drying phase.
  • Good Night: Optimized for night-time operation, offering quiet and efficient cleaning and drying.
  • Sanitizing: For normally or heavily soiled crockery with an antibacterial wash, also suitable for dishwasher maintenance.
  • Soak: To refresh crockery planned for later washing, without detergent.
  • Self-Clean: For dishwasher maintenance, to be run empty with specific dishwasher maintenance detergents.

Options and Functions

The dishwasher includes several options to customize wash cycles:

  • Zone Wash 3D: This option enhances washing performance or saves energy by focusing water jets on specific racks. It can be activated after selecting a compatible cycle, allowing users to choose between washing only the lower, upper, or cutlery rack.
  • Delay: Allows delaying the program start from 0:30 to 24 hours. The delay time increases in increments, and the countdown begins after pressing Start/Pause.
  • Keylock: A long press of the Zone Wash 3D button activates this function, locking the control panel except for the On/Off button.
  • Water Tap Closed – Alarm: Flashes when there is no water inlet or the tap is closed.
  • Short Time: Reduces the duration of main programs while maintaining washing and drying performance.
  • Tablet (Tab): Optimizes program performance for combined detergents in tablet form.
  • Drain Out: Stops and cancels the active cycle, draining water from the dishwasher.
  • ActiveDry: A convection drying system that automatically opens the door during or after the drying phase for exceptional drying. This feature can be disabled by the user through a specific sequence of button presses.

Loading the Racks

Proper loading is essential for optimal performance:

  • Cutlery Rack: Designed for cutlery, arranged with blades facing downwards for safety and better cleaning. Small items like coffee cups can be placed in the middle.
  • Foldable Flaps with Adjustable Position: These flaps can be folded or unfolded to accommodate various crockery, including wine glasses by inserting their stems into the slots.
  • Upper Rack: Ideal for delicate and light dishes such as glasses, cups, saucers, and low salad bowls. The height of the upper rack can be adjusted to create more space in either the upper or lower basket. This is done by lifting the rack sides without pressing levers or by pressing levers 'A' to lower it.
  • Lower Rack: For pots, lids, plates, and salad bowls. Large items should be placed at the sides to avoid obstructing the spray arm. The lower rack has tip-up supports for flexible loading.
  • Zone Wash 3D: When using this option, load pots and casseroles facing the lower part of the Zone Wash 3D components.
  • Glass Care: A dedicated accessory in the lower rack provides stable positioning for stem glasses, ensuring optimal cleaning and drying.

Daily Use

To operate the dishwasher:

  1. Check Water Connection: Ensure the dishwasher is connected and the tap is open.
  2. Switch On: Press the On/Off button.
  3. Load Racks: Arrange crockery as per loading instructions.
  4. Fill Detergent Dispenser: Add detergent to the dry dispenser.
  5. Choose Program and Customise Cycle: Select the appropriate program and any desired options.
  6. Start: Press the Start/Pause button.
  7. End of Wash Cycle: The cycle ends with beeps and "End" on the display. Open the door and switch off the appliance. Wait a few minutes before unloading to avoid burns.

Modifying a Running Program: If a program needs to be changed shortly after starting, press and hold the On/Off button to switch off, then switch back on, select the new program and options, and press Start/Pause. Adding Extra Crockery: Open the door (beware of hot steam), add items, and press Start/Pause to resume. Accidental Interruptions: If the door opens or there's a power cut, the cycle stops. Close the door or restore power, then press Start/Pause to resume. Disabling DEMO MODE: To disable, switch the machine ON and OFF, then press the DELAY button until a buzzer is heard. Switch the machine on again. The "dOF" indicator flashes and then turns OFF.

Advice and Tips

  • Remove food residues from crockery before loading.
  • Arrange crockery firmly, with openings facing downwards.
  • Ensure spray arms can rotate freely.
  • Place small items in the cutlery basket.
  • Heavily soiled items go in the lower basket.
  • Avoid unsuitable crockery like wood, delicate decorated glasses, synthetic materials not resistant to high temperatures, copper, tin, or items soiled with ash, wax, grease, or ink.
  • To prevent damage to glass and crockery, use dishwasher-safe items, delicate detergent, and unload promptly.
  • For energy saving, run the dishwasher when fully loaded. Use dedicated wash options for partial loads. Avoid manual pre-rinsing.
  • For hygiene, run a high-temperature program at least once a month with a teaspoon of detergent to clean the appliance.

Care and Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance:

  • Cleaning the Filter Assembly: Clean the filter assembly at least once a month or every 30 cycles. Turn the cylindrical filter A anti-clockwise, pull it out, remove cup filter B, and slide out stainless-steel plate filter C. Remove any foreign objects and food residues. Re-place the assembly correctly.
  • Cleaning the Spray Arms: Check and clean the spray arms periodically with a non-metallic brush to remove encrusted food residues. The upper spray arm can be removed by turning its plastic locking ring anti-clockwise. The lower spray arm can be pulled upwards.
  • Cleaning the Water Inlet Hose: If hoses are new or unused for a long time, let water run until clear before connecting to prevent blockages.
  • Water Softening System: This system automatically reduces water hardness and regenerates with salt. Refill the salt container when empty. Regeneration occurs approximately every 6 Eco cycles (with hardness level 3), consuming about 3.5L of water and adding 5 minutes to the cycle.
