v Make sure that the power cord is working and fully seated into the electrical
receptacle and the power-supply ac connector.
v Reinstall the power-supply unit.
If these tasks do not solve the problem, contact your IBM technical-support
representative.
20. Complete any remaining Recovery Guru procedures, if needed.
21. Check the status of each component in the storage subsystem.
22. Are any amber LEDs lit on any of the components?
v Yes : Click Recovery Guru in the Subsystem Management window toolbar
and complete the recovery procedure. If a problem is still indicated, contact
your IBM technical-support representative.
v No: Go to step 23.
23. Create, save, and print a new storage subsystem profile.
Replacing a battery
Each RAID controller in the DS3300 Storage Subsystem contains a rechargeable
battery that maintains data in the cache memory for 3 days without power to the
unit. The cache battery is the only serviceable battery in the DS3300.
Use the following procedure if the DS3000 Storage Manager software instructs you
to replace the battery because the current battery has failed. You can also use the
DS3000 Storage Manager software to check the status of the battery. Because
write-caching is disabled when the battery fails, replace the failed battery as soon
as possible to minimize any impact due to the disabling of the write-caching
function.
The DS3300 storage subsystem controller cache battery timer is set to indicate
when the battery is 2 years old. When the battery reaches 2 years of age, it does
not mean that the battery has failed; but the battery might not be capable of
maintaining cached controller data for up to 3 days in the event of a subsystem loss
of power.
Attention:
1. If you are also removing the memory cache DIMM, do not start with this
procedure; instead, follow the instructions in “Replacing a controller” on page
66.
2. When you handle static-sensitive devices, take precautions to avoid damage
from static electricity. For details about handling static-sensitive devices, see
“Handling static-sensitive devices” on page 19.
To replace a battery unit, complete the following steps.
1. Use the DS3000 Storage Manager software to print a storage subsystem profile.
2. Read the safety information that begins on page xi and “Best practices
guidelines” on page 6.
3. Locate the RAID controller that contains the failed battery unit (see “Controller
LEDs” on page 52).
Attention: Before you remove a controller in a single-controller DS3300, shut
down the DS3300 to avoid data loss (see “Turning off the storage subsystem”
on page 54).
