Cleaning sinks in stainless steel
— A sink in stainless steel does not absorb
taste or smell and will keep fresh for
many years if cleaned at regular inter-
vals. Therefore, wipe the sink clean with
a damp cloth or sponge and washing-up
detergent, if necessary, after use. Rinse
the bowl with water and then wipe
the sink with a dry cloth to avoid lime
stains from dried-up water. You should
also wipe up washing-up detergent or
cleaner to avoid stains. Do not leave
chlorous liquids in the bowl or on the
sink for several hours, as chlorine can
damage the sink and make the stainless
steel surface matt.
— Stains which can’t be removed by
normal wiping can be rubbed off with a
soft brush or a nylon sponge and liquid
cleaner. Do not use cleaners containing
abrasives. Rinse with water and wipe
with a dry cloth.
— Always wipe and rub the sink lengthwise
when cleaning.
Good to know
— Do not use scouring-powder, steel wool,
hard or sharp tools which can scratch
the stainless steel surface. The damp
surface can be discoloured if substan-
ces containing iron, from steel wool,
nails or gravel, are allowed to remain
on it. Discolouration is caused by the
foreign material.
— Matt parts of the sink will be shiny again
if you sprinkle them with chalk, rub with
a soft cloth, rinse with water and wipe
the surface dry.
