Overview

The Kenwood JE350 & JE356 Series are centrifugal juicers designed for domestic use, allowing users to extract fresh juice from a variety of fruits and vegetables. These juicers are engineered for ease of use and maintenance, promoting a healthier lifestyle through fresh juice consumption.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Kenwood JE350 & JE356 Series juicers is to extract juice from fruits and vegetables using a centrifugal mechanism. Food is fed through a feed tube into the juicer, where it is shredded by a filter (grating disc) spinning at high speed. The centrifugal force separates the juice from the pulp, with the juice flowing out through a juice outlet and the pulp collecting in a dedicated pulp collector. The juicer features a speed control with two settings: speed 1 for softer foods and speed 2 for harder foods, allowing for optimal juice extraction depending on the type of produce.

Important Technical Specifications:

While specific power ratings (e.g., wattage) are not detailed in the provided manual pages, the juicer operates on an electrical supply. For UK users, it is specified that the appliance must be protected by a 3A approved (BS1362) fuse. The wiring in the cord is coloured as follows: Blue for Neutral and Brown for Live. The juicer complies with European Economic Community Directive 89/336/EEC. The model number is located on the underside of the juicer.

Usage Features:

  • Safety First: The manual emphasizes several critical safety precautions. Users are warned not to use the juicer if the filter is damaged and to never immerse the motor unit, cord, or plug in water to prevent electric shock. The juicer should always be switched off and unplugged before fitting or removing parts, cleaning, or after use. It is crucial to use only the supplied pusher and never to insert fingers into the feed tube. The lid must be securely locked for the juicer to operate, and users should wait for the filter to stop before removing the lid. Children and infirm people should not use the juicer without supervision. The cord should be kept away from hot surfaces and out of reach of children.
  • Food Preparation: Before juicing, users should remove stones from fruits like plums, peaches, and cherries, and tough skins from melons, pineapples, cucumbers, and potatoes. Soft-skinned foods such as apples, pears, carrots, radishes, lettuce, cabbage, parsley, spinach, grapes, strawberries, and celery only require washing. For citrus fruits, it is recommended to peel them and remove the white pith to avoid bitter-tasting juice.
  • Assembly: Assembly involves fitting the pulp collector so its slot aligns with the juice outlet, then placing the filter inside the pulp collector. The lid is then placed on top and turned until it locks under the lid release button.
  • Operation: Once assembled, any excess cord can be pushed into the compartment in the base. A glass should be placed under the juice outlet. Food should be cut into small pieces to fit the feed tube. The juicer is switched on, and food is pushed down with the pusher. Speed 1 is for softer foods, and speed 2 for harder foods. If the juicer slows down or stops due to very hard foods, users should switch it off and unblock the filter. The pulp collector should be cleared regularly during use.
  • Juicing Hints: To maximize juice extraction from soft foods, insert them slowly. For optimal vitamin content, juice should be consumed as soon as possible. If storing juice for a few hours, it should be refrigerated, and a few drops of lemon juice can help preserve it. It is advised not to drink more than three 230ml (8 fl.oz.) glasses of juice per day unless accustomed to it. Juice for children should be diluted with an equal amount of water. Dark green (broccoli, spinach) or dark red (beetroot, red cabbage) vegetable juices are potent and should always be diluted. Fruit juice, being high in fructose, should be consumed cautiously by individuals with diabetes or low blood sugar. Mixing fruit and vegetable juices (except apple and carrot) is generally discouraged as it can cause discomfort.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Before cleaning, the juicer must be unplugged. The manual advises against washing any parts in a dishwasher. Discolouration of plastic parts, particularly from foods like carrots, can be removed by rubbing with a cloth dipped in vegetable oil.
  • Disassembly for Cleaning: To disassemble, first unplug the juicer. Lift out the pusher. Hold down the lid release button and turn the lid clockwise to lift it off. Then, lift out the filter, followed by the pulp collector.
  • Specific Part Cleaning:
    • Motor Unit: Wipe with a damp cloth and then dry.
    • Pulp Collector, Lid, Pusher: Wash and then dry.
    • Filter: Clean using a soft brush. The filter should be regularly checked for signs of damage. If damaged, it must not be used, and users should refer to the "service and customer care" section for guidance.
  • Filter Removal: If the filter is too tight to remove immediately after use, waiting a few minutes for it to loosen up is recommended.

Service and Customer Care:

In the UK, if the cord is damaged, it must be replaced by Kenwood or an authorized Kenwood repairer for safety reasons. For help with using the juicer, servicing, or repairs (within or outside of guarantee), customers can contact Kenwood customer care at 023 9239 2333, having their model number ready. Spares and attachments can be ordered by calling 0870 2413653. For other countries, customers should contact the shop where they purchased the juicer.

Guarantee (UK only):

The juicer is covered by a one-year guarantee from the purchase date. Kenwood will repair or replace the juicer free of charge, provided it has not been misused, neglected, damaged, modified (unless by Kenwood), is not second-hand, has not been used commercially, has not had a plug incorrectly fitted, and the customer provides a receipt as proof of purchase date. This guarantee does not affect statutory rights.
