Overview

This document provides an overview of various Kia vehicle models, serving as a quick reference guide for drivers. It includes information on general vehicle controls, essential specifications, and common operational procedures.

General Vehicle Information (Applicable to most Kia models covered):

  • Vehicle Instruction Card Supplement (Page 2): This supplement covers the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) system.
    • Function Description: The EPB replaces the traditional mechanical handbrake, designed to prevent accidental rolling. It offers convenience and safety features.
    • Activation: The EPB typically auto-activates. It will also activate if seatbelts are not worn or if luggage on seats triggers the system. To manually apply, pull the switch labeled 'A'. Warning lamps on the switch and instrument panel confirm activation.
    • Deactivation: The EPB normally auto-releases. Depress the brake or accelerator pedal, or press the switch 'A' to manually release it. Warning lamps will extinguish upon deactivation.
    • When Driving Away: The EPB automatically deactivates when driving off and prevents rollback on gradients for a few seconds. For automatic gearbox vehicles, it can be used for brief stops (e.g., at traffic lights) to prevent creeping forward.
    • Deadlocks: Messages about deadlocks/safelock indicate that once the vehicle is locked, occupants inside cannot open the doors, which is a standard advisory message and not a malfunction.
    • Seatbelt Warning Lights: These may illuminate if the EPB auto-activates to prevent movement. To deactivate, ensure all passengers fasten seatbelts and remove luggage from seats.
    • Warning Lights and What They Mean:
      • Red: Indicates a potentially serious problem or safety issue, requiring immediate attention. Can also be an important reminder.
      • Yellow/Orange: Suggests a need for service or repair soon. If flashing, contact the rental agent.
      • Green/Blue: Indicates a system is on or operating normally.
    • Driving Restrictions and/or Conditions: Adheres to Highway Code maximum speeds (MPH) unless otherwise indicated:
      • Built-up area (street lit): 30 mph
      • Single carriageway: 60 mph
      • Dual carriageway: 70 mph
