TheisolatedPCIboardsaredesignedforapplicationsinharsh
environments.Isolatedportsprovidereliablecommunicationinsituations
involvinggroundloopsfromdifferentgroundlevelsorhighcommon
modevoltageinducedonthelinesinnoisyenvironments.Nonisolated
portsmaynotprovidereliablecommunicationinthosesituations.The
isolationbetweeneachcommunicationportandthehostPCensuresthe
safeoperationofthePCandthedevicesconnectedtootherportsonthe
sameboard,incaseofaccidentalhighvoltagesorlinesurgeson
communicationlines.

Equipment(DTE)andDataCommunicationsEquipment(DCE)referto
thetypesofequipmentoneitherendofaserialconnection.Ingeneral,
