Overview

This document provides a comprehensive guide for operating and maintaining a Bosch dishwasher, model SN23HW24TE. It covers initial setup, daily usage, and troubleshooting, ensuring optimal performance and longevity of the appliance.

Function Description

The dishwasher is designed to efficiently clean tableware using various wash programmes and features. It incorporates a water softening system to adapt to different water hardness levels, ensuring effective cleaning and preventing limescale buildup. The appliance also features a Home Connect function, allowing users to control and monitor the dishwasher remotely via a mobile app. This connectivity enhances convenience, enabling users to adjust settings, select programmes, and receive notifications from their smartphone or tablet. The dishwasher is equipped with spray arms that distribute water and detergent, and a filter system to capture food remnants, ensuring clean water circulation. Special dispensers for salt and rinse aid are integrated to optimize washing results and prevent water spots or streaks on tableware.

Usage Features

Initial Setup:

Before first use, the dishwasher requires a few setup steps. Users need to install the Home Connect app on their mobile device and connect it to the appliance by scanning a QR code. This enables remote control and access to various settings. The water softening system must be configured according to the local water hardness. This involves checking the water hardness settings table provided in the manual, selecting the appropriate setting (H00-H07) on the appliance, and saving it.

Adding Special Salt:

To prevent damage from limescale, special salt must be added to the dispenser before the programme starts. The lid of the dispenser should be unscrewed, and for initial start-up, the dispenser should be filled with water first. Then, special salt is added until the dispenser is full, displacing the water. It is crucial not to add detergent to the special salt dispenser. After filling, the lid must be placed back and turned to close securely.

Adding Rinse Aid:

Rinse aid is essential for achieving streak-free drying results. To add rinse aid, the catch on the lid of the dispenser needs to be pressed and lifted. Rinse aid is then poured up to the maximum mark. After filling, the lid is closed until it clicks into position. The amount of rinse aid dispensed can be adjusted in the settings if streaks or water spots are observed.

Adding Detergent:

Detergent, whether powder or tablet, is added to the dry detergent dispenser. After placing the detergent, the lid of the dispenser is closed until it clicks into position.

Operating the Appliance:

  1. Loading Tableware: Only dishwasher-safe tableware should be loaded. Large food remnants should be removed from the tableware, and care should be taken to ensure that the spray arms can rotate freely without obstruction.
  2. Adding Detergent: Detergent is added as described above.
  3. Switching On: The appliance is switched on.
  4. Selecting a Programme: The user selects one of the available programmes based on the type and soil level of the tableware. Programmes include:
    • Intensive 70°: For heavily soiled pots, pans, and durable tableware.
    • Auto 45-65°: An automatic programme that adjusts temperature and duration based on soil level.
    • Eco 50°: An energy-efficient programme for normally soiled tableware.
    • 1h Speed 65°: A quick programme for normally soiled tableware.
    • Speed 45°: An even quicker programme for lightly soiled tableware.
    • Machine Care: A special programme for cleaning the dishwasher itself.
    • Favourite: A customizable programme setting.
  5. Starting the Programme: The selected programme is started.
  6. Unloading Tableware: Once the programme finishes, the tableware can be removed.
  7. Cancelling a Programme: To cancel a running programme, the Reset button is pressed for approximately 4 seconds. The programme will be cancelled and end after about 1 minute.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the dishwasher's performance and longevity. The manual details procedures for cleaning filters, spray arms, and the wastewater pump.

Cleaning Filters:

The filter system should be checked for residue after each wash.

  1. The coarse filter is turned anticlockwise and removed along with the filter system.
  2. The micro filter is pulled down to remove it.
  3. The locking catches on the coarse filter are pressed together, and the coarse filter is lifted out.
  4. All filter elements are cleaned under running water.
  5. The filter system is re-assembled and inserted back into the appliance, turning the coarse filter clockwise until the arrow markings match up.

Cleaning Spray Arms:

The spray arms should be cleaned regularly to ensure proper water distribution.

  1. The upper spray arm is unscrewed and pulled down to remove.
  2. The lower spray arm is pulled up to remove.
  3. The outlet nozzles on both spray arms are checked for blockages and any foreign bodies are removed under running water.
  4. The lower spray arm is re-inserted until it clicks into position.
  5. The upper spray arm is re-inserted and screwed firmly into place.

Cleaning Wastewater Pump:

If the wastewater pump is blocked, it needs to be cleaned.

  1. The appliance is disconnected from the power supply.
  2. The filter system is removed.
  3. Any standing water is scooped out.
  4. The pump cover is pried off using a spoon and gripped by the crosspiece.
  5. The pump cover is lifted inwards at an angle and removed.
  6. Any food remnants and foreign bodies are removed from the impeller area.
  7. The pump cover is re-inserted and pressed down until it clicks into position.
  8. The filter system is re-installed.

Troubleshooting:

The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues, including:

  • Water Supply Issues (E:32-00): This could be due to a kinked supply hose, a turned-off or jammed water tap, or blocked filters in the water connection. Solutions involve checking and rectifying these issues, including cleaning the supply hose filter.
  • Blocked Filters (E:92-40): Indicates soiled or blocked filters, requiring cleaning.
  • Wastewater Pump Issues (E:61-02): Points to a blocked wastewater pump or a loose pump cover, requiring cleaning or securing the cover.
  • Food Remnants on Tableware: This can be caused by improper loading, blocked spray arms, soiled filters, or an incorrect washing programme selection. Solutions include rearranging tableware, cleaning spray arms and filters, and selecting a more intensive programme.
  • Streaks or Rust Spots: Streaks on glasses or cutlery can be due to too much rinse aid or no rinse aid. Rust spots on cutlery indicate non-rust-resistant cutlery or washing rusting items together.
  • Detergent Residue: May occur if the detergent dispenser is blocked or spray arms are obstructed.
  • Appliance Malfunctions: If all LEDs light up or flash, or the programme does not run, it indicates an electronic fault. The solution is to reset the appliance by pressing the main switch button for approximately 4 seconds.
