: Thoroughly clean the filler cap (1)
and the area around it to ensure that
no dirt falls into the tank.
: Fill up with chain oil.
: Check oil level regularly during
operation.
: Top up oil tank when the “min”
mark (2) is reached.
If the oil level in the tank does not go
down, the reason may be a problem in
the oil supply system: Check chain
lubrication, clean the oilways, contact
your servicing dealer for assistance if
necessary. STIHL recommends that you
have maintenance and repair work
performed only by a STIHL servicing
dealer.
The saw chain must always throw off a
small amount of oil.
Never operate your saw without
chain lubrication. If the chain runs
dry, the whole cutting attachment
will be irretrievably damaged within
a very short time.
Always check chain lubrication and
oil level in tank before starting work.
Every new chain has to be broken in for
about 2 to 3 minutes.
After breaking in chain, check chain
tension and adjust if necessary – see
“Checking Chain Tension”.
The coasting brake brings the saw chain
to a standstill when you let go of the
trigger switch.

2 = Coasting brake disengaged
