ServicingtheCuttingBlades
Maintainsharpbladesthroughoutthecuttingseason,because
sharpbladescutcleanlywithouttearingorshreddingthegrass
blades.Tearingandshreddingturnsgrassbrownattheedges,
whichslowsgrowth,andincreasesthechanceofdisease.
Checkthecutterbladesdailyforsharpness,andforany
wearordamage.Filedownanynicksandsharpenthe
bladesasnecessary.Ifabladeisdamagedorworn,replace
itimmediatelywithagenuineTororeplacementblade.For
convenientsharpeningandreplacement,youmaywantto
keepextrabladesonhand.
WARNING
Awornordamagedbladecanbreak,andapiece
ofthebladecouldbethrownintotheoperator's
orbystander'sarea,resultinginseriouspersonal
injuryordeath.
•Inspectthebladeperiodicallyforwearor
damage.
•Replaceawornordamagedblade.
BeforeInspectingorServicingthe
Blades
Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,disengagethe
blade-controlswitch,ensuretheparkingbrakeisengaged,
stoptheengine,andremovethekey.
InspectingtheBlades
ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily—Checkthe
cuttingblades.
1.Inspectthecuttingedges(Figure49).
Note:Iftheedgesarenotsharporhavenicks,remove
andsharpentheblades;refertoSharpeningtheBlades
(page45).
2.Inspecttheblades,especiallythecurvedarea(Figure
49).
Note:Ifyounoticeanydamage,wear,oraslot
forminginthisarea(item3inFigure49),immediately
installanewblade.

Note:Themachinemustbeonalevelsurfaceforthe

1.Raisethemowerdecktothehighestheight-of-cut
position;alsoconsideredthe'transport'position.
2.Whilewearingthicklypaddedgloves,orotheradequate
handprotection,slowlyrotatethebladetobemeasure
intoapositionthatallowseffectivemeasurementofthe
distancebetweenthecuttingedgeandthelevelsurface
themachineison(Figure50).
