NOTE: Canada requires that all Category IV heating
appliances use venting material that meets ULC S636.
This kit does not meet these requirements and cannot be
used.
NOTE: If these instructions dier from those packaged
with the furnace, follow these instructions.
NOTE: The roof vent location is preferred since it is less
susceptible to damage, has reduced chances to intake
contaminants, and vent vapors are less visible.
NOTE: Codes and local utility requirements governing the
installation of gas red equipment, wiring, plumbing, and
ue connections must be adhered to. In the absence of lo-
cal codes, the installation must conform with the National
Fuel Gas Code NFPA 54/ANSI Z223.1 "latest edition". The
latest code may be obtained from the American Gas Asso-
ciation 400 N. Capitol St., NW, Suite 450, Washington D.C.
20001, 1-855-999-9870 or www.aga.org.
NOTE: Read the Installer's Guide before starting the
installation. Refer to the Furnace Installer's Guide for
equivalent vent lengths. The BAYAIR30AVENTA is 5
equivalent feet.

Overview

This document is an installer's guide for the BAYAIR30AVENTA Concentric Vent Kit, designed for use with specific models of Trane and American Standard condensing furnaces (UH, DH, M95, UY, DY, UX, DX, UC, DC, S9, A9, and L9 furnaces, where * may be A or T). The kit facilitates the venting of combustion products and intake of combustion air for these Category IV heating appliances.

Function Description

The Concentric Vent Kit combines the combustion air intake and exhaust vent into a single termination point. This design allows for a cleaner exterior appearance and simplifies installation compared to separate vent and intake pipes. The kit is specifically designed for direct vent condensing furnaces, meaning it is not suitable for non-condensing furnaces or Category I, II, or III vent furnaces. The primary components of the kit include a Wye concentric fitting, a rain cap, and two pipes (4" diameter and 2-1/2" diameter) that integrate the exhaust and intake functions.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model: BAYAIR30AVENTA
  • Compatibility: For use with Trane/American Standard *UH, *DH, M95, *UY, *DY, *UX, *DX, *UC, *DC, S9, A9, and L9 condensing furnaces.
  • Vent Type: Category IV heating appliances. Not for Category I, II, or III.
  • Equivalent Vent Length: The BAYAIR30AVENTA kit is rated at 5 equivalent feet.
  • Pipe Diameters:
    • Larger pipe: 4" diameter, 23.75" long (for exhaust or intake, depending on configuration).
    • Smaller pipe: 2-1/2" diameter, 33.12" long (for exhaust or intake, depending on configuration).
  • Field-Supplied Pipe Compatibility: The kit is designed for 2, 2-1/2, or 3-inch diameter pipe systems. Field-supplied pipe and fittings must conform to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards:
    • PVC: D1785 (schedule-40 PVC), D2241 (SDR-21 and SDR-26 PVC).
    • ABS: D2661 (ABS-DWV).
  • Pipe Cement: Must conform to ASTM standards D2564 (PVC) or D2235 (ABS).
  • Primer: Must conform to ASTM F656 (PVC). Primer for ABS pipe and fittings is not recommended.
  • Maximum Main Body Pipe Length: The 4" and 2-1/2" pipes supplied in the kit can be replaced with field-supplied SDR-21, SDR-26, or SCH 40 PVC pipe to extend the main body pipes up to a maximum of 60 inches. However, field-supplied couplings should not be used to extend the main body pipes, as this can cause airflow restriction and intermittent furnace operation.
  • Minimum 4" Pipe Length (Sidewall): The 4" pipe can be shortened to a minimum of 14 inches for sidewall installations.
  • Termination Height (Roof): Minimum 12 inches above the roof surface or anticipated snow level. Maximum 24 inches above the roof.
  • Termination Clearance (Sidewall):
    • Minimum 12 inches to overhang.
    • Minimum 12 inches (18 inches for Canada) above the highest anticipated snow level or grade, whichever is greater.
    • 1" ± 1/2" distance from the wall surface to prevent water accumulation.
  • Multiple Installations: A minimum separation distance of 12 inches is required between vent kits.
  • Fasteners: Includes #8 SS Pan head screws for securing the rain cap.

Usage Features

  • Versatile Installation: Can be installed for both roof termination (vertical) and sidewall termination (horizontal) applications.
  • Combined Venting: Integrates both combustion air intake and flue gas exhaust into a single, compact termination point.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: The concentric design offers a cleaner exterior appearance compared to two separate pipes.
  • Clearance Requirements: Detailed instructions are provided for maintaining proper clearances from the roof, ground, overhangs, and other structures to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Massachusetts Specific Requirements: For sidewall horizontal venting in Massachusetts, specific regulations apply, including the mandatory installation of hard-wired carbon monoxide detectors with battery backup on each level of the dwelling, and specific signage requirements for the vent terminal.
  • Prevention of Condensate Freeze-up: Instructions advise against installing vent kits one above the other in sidewall applications to prevent condensate freeze-up.
  • Flue Gas Degradation Prevention: For sidewall venting, it is recommended to use a corrosion-resistant shield (24 inches square) behind the vent terminal to protect building materials from moisture in flue gases. Silicone caulk should be used to seal cracks, seams, and joints within 3 feet of the vent terminal.

Maintenance Features

  • Disassembly for Cleaning (Optional): While cementing the smaller pipe to the rain cap is standard, RTV silicon sealant can be used instead to allow for future field disassembly and cleaning of the vent system.
  • Rib Removal from Rain Cap: For vertical vent kit installations, it is crucial to remove ribs from the rain cap to prevent ice or snow formation, which could lead to an inoperable furnace. This is a critical step for proper function and safety.
  • Regular Checkouts: After installation, the furnace must be operated to ensure all pipe joints are securely fastened and sealed, preventing the escape of combustion products into the building. This is a vital step for safety and proper operation.
  • Inspection: Local gas inspectors will verify the proper installation of the vent system, including carbon monoxide detectors and signage (where applicable), before approving the installation.

The guide emphasizes the importance of adhering to all national, state, and local codes, as well as manufacturer instructions, to ensure safe and proper installation and operation. It also warns against installation by unqualified personnel due to potential hazards including property damage, personal injury, or death.
