Storage
Laying Up (Winterization)
Be sure that your Volvo Penta equipment is properly
prepared for long or short term storage. Engine or drive
damage can result if some simple maintenance steps
are overlooked prior to storage. Winterizing gives you
the assurance that your engine will be protected during
storage and will run more reliably when you put your
boat back in the water.
Short Term Storage
Up to two months:
Flush engine with fresh water.
Raw Water Cooled Engines Only: Drain raw
water from manifolds and engine block. See
Draining the Engine.
Closed Cooling Engines Only: Drain raw water
from manifolds. Do not drain the engine
block! See Draining the Engine.
Closed Cooling Engines Only: Check coolant
mix for proper level of freeze protection. See
Checking Engine Coolant for Freeze Protec-
tion page 87.
Store battery as recommended by manufacturer.
Add fuel stabilizer; refer to Ethanol-Blended Gas-
oline page 81 in Maintenance.
