Function Description
The Westinghouse Canopy Range Hood is a domestic appliance designed to extract cooking fumes, odors, and grease from the kitchen environment. It operates by drawing air through grease filters and then either discharging it externally (ducted mode) or recirculating it back into the room after passing through optional charcoal filters (recirculating mode). The range hood features multiple fan speeds to accommodate various cooking intensities, from light frying to intensive grilling and wok cooking. It also includes integrated LED lighting to illuminate the cooking surface.

Installation Requirements:
- The hood must be mounted on the wall.
- Minimum distance from hood base to top of hob: 620mm for gas hobs, 600mm for electric hobs. The maximum recommended height is 800mm for both. If the hob instructions specify a greater distance, that distance must be observed.
- Proper ventilation of the room is essential when the range hood is used simultaneously with gas or other fuel-burning appliances.
- Exhaust air must not be discharged into a heating flue or a wall cavity unless specifically designed for that purpose.
- For optimal air extraction in ducted mode, the exhaust flue should be short, straight, and not reduced in size. Semi-rigid ducting should be installed taut to minimize pressure loss. Rigid ducting (optional AR150F) is recommended for best performance.
- In recirculating mode, an optional carbon filter (AR610RK kit) is recommended to prevent odors.
Usage Features
The range hood is operated via a control panel located on the front of the unit, featuring touch-sensitive buttons for various functions:
- Fan Speed Control: Three fan speeds are available:
- Speed 1: For light frying/boiling.
- Speed 2: For frying/wok cooking/heavy boiling.
- Speed 3: For grilling, intensive frying, and wok cooking.
It is recommended to turn on the hood a few minutes before cooking and leave it on for at least 5 minutes after cooking, or until all odors have dispersed.
- Lights On/Off: A dedicated light symbol button controls the integrated LED lights.
- Power On/Off: A power button to turn the appliance on or off.
- Filter Indicator/Switch: This indicator alerts the user when the grease filters need cleaning. Once cleaned, the alert can be deactivated with a single touch.
- Timer Function: When activated, the timer allows the range hood to continue running for an additional 5 to 15 minutes after cooking, depending on the selected fan speed. The fan speed reduces in 5-minute increments until the unit automatically turns off, ensuring complete odor removal.
Safety Features:
- The appliance is fitted with a safety cutout device. This device may activate if the cooker hood is installed too close to the cooktop, during flambe cooking, if the cooktop is operated without cooking utensils, or if filters are blocked. If the hood stops, users should correct the fault and allow time for the device to reset before the hood functions again.
- Users are warned against leaving lit gas burners exposed due to fire risk and must always cover them with pots or pans when the range hood is in use.
- The hood must always be disconnected from the electricity supply before any maintenance work.
Maintenance Features
Regular maintenance is crucial for the range hood's performance and safety.
- Cleaning the Hood:
- External Surfaces: Clean with a damp cloth and a solution of water and mild washing-up liquid. For stainless steel surfaces, use non-abrasive cleaning products specifically designed for stainless steel, applying even pressure and following the grain. A soft, dry cloth should be used to wipe down the surface and apply stainless steel protector to prevent surface rust. Avoid corrosive, abrasive, or flammable cleaning products, or those containing bleach.
- Switch Panel and Filter Grill: Clean using only a damp cloth and mild washing-up liquid.
- Inner Housing: Clean with warm water and grease-loosening cleaner. Do not use caustic detergents, abrasive powders, or brushes.
- Removing Metal Grease Filters: To remove, push the grease filter and then pull it down and out.
- Cleaning Metal Grease Filters: These filters must be cleaned at least once a month using non-aggressive detergents. They can be washed by hand or in a dishwasher on a low-temperature, short cycle. The openings should face downwards to allow water to drain. The aluminum filter may dull over time, which is normal.
- Charcoal Filter (for recirculating mode):
- Charcoal filters cannot be cleaned or reused.
- They should be replaced approximately every four months.
- To fit, install one charcoal filter on the left and one on the right to cover the plastic grids protecting the fan wheel.
- When ordering replacements, specify the hood model code and serial number (found on the registration plate inside the unit).
- Changing LED Lamps: If LED lamps need replacement, they must be replaced with lamps of the type stated in the technical specifications (GU10 fitting, 220-240V AC, 4W, Ø50mm, DBR-3.5-H-GU10-50/53). Ensure the appliance is switched off before performing this task to avoid electric shock.
