These products were tested by BMW for safety and suitability and func-
tion checked on BMW bicycles.
BMW assumes the product responsibility for them. On the other hand,
BMW refuses any liability for non approved parts or accessories of any
kind.
BMW cannot judge for each third-party product, whether it is suitable for
being assembled with BMW bicycles without safety risk. Nor can such a
guarantee be given, in the event these products have been approved by
the authorities of a country. Such tests do not always consider all usage
conditions for BMW bicycles and are therefore partly insufcient.
12.5.1 Additional Fittings.
Your bicycle can be tted with various kinds of accessories (a). Make
sure to observe the trafc regulations in your country. Any retrotted
part must be compatible with your bicycle. If you are in doubt or if you
have any questions, please contact your BMW partner!
Mounting incompatible parts can result in an accident!
Before buying any additional bells, horns or lighting accesso-
ries, inform yourself thoroughly whether they are permitted and
tested and accordingly approved for use on public roads. Make
sure additional battery/accumulator-operated lamps (b) are
marked with the wavy line and the letter “K” (c).
Retrotted accessories, such as mudguards, disc or drum
brakes, pannier racks etc. can impair the functioning of your
bicycle. Ask your BMW partner for advice before mounting any
kind of accessories to your bicycle.
12.5.2 Mudguards.
If you want to t your bicycle with mudguards (d), ask your BMW partner
for advice. There are removable mudguards, also referred to as clip-on
mudguards, as well as rmly attached models that provide more protec-
tion.
Retro-ttable mudguards designed to be rmly attached are normally
made of plastic and mounted in the correct position by means of addi-
tionally tted stays. The accurate length of the stay is achieved when the
bottom edge of the mudguard runs parallel to the tyre.
