Checkoil levelbeforeeachoperation.Besureoil levelismaintained.
1. Checkthe oilwiththeenginestoppedandlevel.
2. Removetheoilfill dipstickandwipeit clean.
3. Insertandtightendipstick.Removeit tochecktheoillevel.
4. If theoillevelisnearorbelowthelowerlimit markonthedipstick,remove
theoilfillercap/dipstick,andfill with therecommendedoilto the upper
limit mark.Donotoverfill.
5. Reinstalltheoilfill dipstick.
ChangeEngineOil
Gasolineand itsvaporsare extremelyflammableandexplosive.Fireor
explosioncancausesevereburnsor death.
Changeengineoilafterthefirstfivehoursofoperation,andeveryfiftyhoursor
onceaseasonthereafter.
Whenyoudrainthe oil from the top oilfill tube,the fuel tank must be
empty orfuel canleakout andresult in afire orexplosion.Toempty the
fuel tank, runthe engineuntil it stopsfrom lackof fuel.
1. Withengineoff butstill warm,disconnectthesparkplugwireandkeepit
awayfromthesparkplug.
2. Placeasuitablecontainernexttotheenginetocatchtheusedoil.
3. Removetheoilfill dipstickanddraintheoilintothecontainerbytippingthe
enginetowardtheoil filler neck.SeeFigure17.

Usedoil isa hazardouswasteproduct. Disposeof usedoil properly. Donot
discardwith householdwaste.Checkwithyourlocalauthoritiesor Sears
ServiceCenterfor safedisposal/recyclingfacilities.

Withtheenginein alevelposition,fill to the upperlimit markonthedipstick
with therecommendedoil.
Runningthe enginewith a lowoil levelcancauseenginedamage.
5. Reinstalltheoiifill dipsticksecurely.
CleanEngine
Dailyorbeforeeveryuse,cleangrass,chaffor accumulateddebrisfrom
engine.Keeplinkage,spring,andcontrolsclean.Keepareaaroundand
behindmufflerfreeofanycombustibledebris.
Keepingenginecleanallowsairmovementaroundengine.
Enginepartsshouldbekeptcleanto reducethe riskof overheatingand
ignitionofaccumulateddebris.

LUBRICATION
BladeControl
Lubricatepivotpointsonthebladecontrolat leastonceaseasonwith lightoil.This
controlmustoperatefreelyin bothdirections.SeeFigure18.
Donot usewater to cleanengineparts.Watercouldcontaminatefuel
system.Usea brushor drycloth.
