TRAVERSE
LASER
PICKUP
The
laser
diode
in
the
traverse
unit
(laser
pickup)
may
be
damaged
by
static
electricity
charged
in
your
cloth
or
body.
Be
careful
not
to
damage
it
by
ESD
when
handling
for
servicing.
Handling
of
Traverse
Unit
(laser
pickup)
1.
Do
not
apply
a
strong
shock
to
the
traverse
unit
(laser
pickup)
since
it
is
made
of
precise
structure.
2.
To
prevent
the
breakdown
of
the
laser
diode,
install
the
flexible
cable
after
removing
the
short
pin
for
preventing
a
electrical
charge.
When
removing
or
connecting
the
short
pin,
finish
the
job
in
as
short
time
as
possible.
Also,
cut
out
the
short
land
of
the
flexible
cable
using
nip-
pers
and
etc.
after
replacing
the
optical
pickup.
Refer
to
“REPLACING
THE
MAIN
PARTS
OF
THE
TRAVERSE
UNIT”
in
this
manual
for
the
handling
of
the
traverse
unit.
3.
Be
careful
not
to
apply
excessive
stress
to
the
flexible
board
(FPC
Board)
since
it
may
cause
cutting.
4.
Do
not
turn
the
variable
resistor
of
the
laser
power
since
it
is
not
adjustable.
Grounding
for
electrostatic
breakdown
prevention
1.
Human
body
grounding
Use
an
anti-static
wrist
strap
to
discharge
the
static
elec-
tricity
from
your
body.
2.
Work
table
grounding
Put
a
conductive
materiai
(sheet)
or
steel
sheet
on
the
area
where
the
optical
pickup
is
placed
and
ground
the
sheet.
3.
When
replacing
DVD
drive
unit
Because
the
unit
wrapping
bag
(blue
polyethylene
bag)
may
be
charged
electro-statically,
be
sure
to
unwrap
the
DVD
drive
unit
on
the
work
table
when
preparing
the
unit
for
replacement.
4.
Power
source
In
the
state
of
drive
unit
alone,
the
laser
diode
may
be
damaged
by
the
spike
current
or
voltage
generated
by
power
on/off
of
other
equipment
(electric
tolls
or
fluores-
cent
light
stand
etc.)
Provide
separate
power
source
for
using
such
equipment.

Method
At
power
ON:
Handling
of
Laser
Diode
1.
Do
not
use
a
tester
or
etc.
for
checking
the
laser
diode
since
the
laser
diode
may
be
damaged
easily
by
the
volt-
age
of
the
tester
inside
battery.
Wirst
strap
(Anti-static
bracelet)
MQ
Iron
plate
or
some
metals
to
conduct
electricity
Setting
position
1.
Close
the
tray
with
the
CLOSE
button.
Traverse
position
2.
Turn
the
power
off
with
the
POWER
button.
3.
Disconnect
the
power
plug
from
the
power
outlet.
Caution
Do
not
close
the
tray
in
manual
after
disconnecting
the
power
plug
from
the
power
outlet.
If
do
it,
the
traverse
is
not
set
to
the
elevation
up
position
(standby)
and
you
can
not
transport
the
unit.
Initializing
of
Microcomputer
To
initialize
the
microcomputer
(Factory
shipping
condition),
press
the
OPEN/CLOSE
button
during
pressing
both
PLAY
and
SKIP(i<4<
)
buttons.
