Lubrication (Fig.A)
Blades
1. After use, carefully clean the blade

with a
resinsolvent.
2. After cleaning, apply a light film of lubrication to the
exposedblade.
3. Turn the trimmer vertical with the blades toward the
ground and run the trimmer for a few seconds to fully
disperse thelubrication.
MAINTENANCE

WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal
injury, turn unit off and remove the battery pack
before making any adjustments or removing/
installing attachments or accessories. An
accidental start-up can causeinjury.

Maintaining Blade (Fig. M)
The cutting blades are made from high quality, hardened
steel and with normal usage, they will not require
resharpening. However, if you accidentally hit a wire fence,
stones, glass, or other hard objects as shown in Figure M you
may put a nick in the blade. There is no need to remove this
nick as long as it does not interfere with the movement of
the blade. If it does interfere, remove the battery and use a
fine toothed file or sharpening stone to remove the nick. If
you drop the trimmer, carefully inspect it for damage. If the
blade is bent, housing cracked, handles broken or if you see
any other condition that may affect the trimmer’s operation
contact your local
DeWALT authorized service center for
repairs before putting it back intouse.
Fertilizers and other garden chemicals contain agents which
greatly accelerate the corrosion of metals. Do not store the
unit on or adjacent to fertilizers orchemicals.
With the battery removed, use only mild soap and a damp
cloth to clean the unit. Never let any liquid get inside
the unit; never immerse any part of the unit into a liquid.
Prevent the blades from rusting by applying a film of light
machine oil aftercleaning.
Sharpening Blade (Fig.N)
• Keep blade sharp for best performance. A dull
blade does not cutcleanly.
• When sharpening blade, ensure that battery
isremoved.
• Replace bent or damaged
bladeimmediately.
It is recommended that sharpening of blades be performed
by a
DeWALT factory service center. However, blade edges
may be sharpened by using a fine tooth file

1. Run trimmer until cutting blades

areoffset.
2. Be sure the lock-off lever is engaged, the blade has
stopped, and the battery has been removed before
sharpeningblade.
3. Wear proper eye protection and gloves, and be careful
not to cutyourself.
4. Carefully file the cutting edges of the blade with a
fine tooth file. File toward the cutting edge

at the
original cutting angle (38° from horizontal). File only
the straight cutting edges

of the blades. Do not
file where the cutting edge curves into the center of
theblade.
5. Flip the trimmer over to sharpen the bottomblade.
6. Repeat steps to sharpen the opposite side of eachblade.

Cleaning

WARNING: Blow dirt and dust out of all air vents with
clean, dry air at least once a week. To minimize the risk
of eye injury, always wear ANSI Z87.1 approved eye
protection when performingthisprocedure.

WARNING: Never use solvents or other harsh
chemicals for cleaning the non-metallic parts of
the tool. These chemicals may weaken the plastic
materials used in these parts. Use a cloth dampened
only with water and mild soap. Never let any liquid
get inside the tool; never immerse any part of the tool
into aliquid.
