FILLING THE BEAN HOPPER
IMPORTANT - Only fill dry, whole and fresh coffee beans into the bean hopper of
the espresso machine. Do not use pre-ground coffee powder or moist coffee beans
to avoid damage to the grinder.
If you wish to operate the grinder, ensure that a sufficient amount of fresh, whole cof-
fee beans is in the bean hopper (max. 230 g). Do not overfill the bean hopper. The
hopper lid must be closed correctly after filling. Otherwise, the flavour of your coffee
beans diminishes rapidly and your espresso gets tasteless and stale.
Simply remove the bean hopper lid for filling.
INSTALLING THE FILTER BASKET
The » Design Espresso Barista Pro « comes with different filter baskets. For getting the
optimum results, you need to use the appropriate filter basket (see: ‘Properties of Your
Espresso Machine / Selecting the Appropriate Filter Basket’).
CAUTIONDo not use violence! A spring within the portafilter holds the
filter basket in place. Do not bend the rim of the filter basket. If the rim is bent, the
filter basket must be replaced, because the seal between filter basket, group head
and portafilter will be leaking. Only use one single filter basket.
8. If required, remove the filter basket already installed. For this, it is best to use the
back of the provided cleaning brush for lifting the filter basket out carefully.
9. If required, rinse portafilter and filter basket for removing residues of coffee pow-
der (see: ‘Care and Cleaning’).
10. Push the required filter basket into the portafilter until it snaps with a click.
PRE-HEATING THE WATER SYSTEM
11. Connect the espresso machine to an appropriate wall power outlet (see: ‘Impor-
tant Safeguards for Electrical Appliances’).
12. Ensure that the control dial is turned to the central standby position. Then press
the ON/OFF button. The standby icon starts flashing slowly and the grinder icon
illuminates. As soon as the water system reaches the required operating tempe-
rature, the standby icon illuminates continuously (approx. 1 minute).
NOTE
The grinder may be used immediately after switching on the machine.
