Table 10 BACne t/IP se ttings in the VLX/ACM-VLX
Fie ld Value s Re marks
A. IP Enabled Y | N Y = Enables IP s upport. N = Disable s IP s upport. If the VLX is on an Ethe rne t LAN
but doe s not us e IP, e ns ure that IP Enabled = N, or that IP Addre s s =
000.000.000.000. This pre ve nts the VLX from se nding any IP mes s age s .
B. IP Frame Type DIX | 802.2 The Ethe rnet frame type us e d for incoming and outbound IP trans miss ions . DIX is
more common. The primary differe nce be twee n frame type s is the LLC he ader.
DIX = The VLX ge ne rates and routes DIX (Ethe rne t II) frame s . 802.2 = The VLX
ge ne rates and route s 802.2 (als o known as 802.3/802.2-not RAW Ethe rne t)
fra me s .
C. Re as s e mbly
Time out
1-300 The fragme nt re ass e mbly time -out, in se conds . De fault is 120.
D. Maximum MTU 90-1500 The Maximum Transmis s ion Unit (MTU) in byte s . Default is 1500 (typical for
Ethe rne t ne tworks).
E. Time to Live 001-255 Se ts the initial Time to Live (TTL) value for IP packe ts s e nt from this de vice . TTL
enume rate s the numbe r of hops (the numbe r of forwarding route rs) the packe t is
allowed to pas s be tween source and de s tination. This preve nts looping packe ts
from cras hing route rs and saturating e ntire links or ne tworks . De fault is 64.
F. Type of S e rvice 0, 1, 2, 4, 8, 15 Se ts the 4-bit type of s e rvice (TOS) value in the IP packet heade r. S ome
applications may us e TOS to provide pre cedence le ve ls and dete rmine optimum
routing me thods for packets . De fault is 0.
G. Virtual Ne t Numbe r 1-65,534 The BACnet Network Number that is as s igne d to the virtual ne tworkcre ate d by
the IP WAN. All BBMDs participating on the IP WAN (in othe r words , all BBMDs in
the broadcas t dis tribution table ) must have this Virtual Ne t se t to the s ame number.
This Ne twork Numbe r must also be unique with res pe ct to inte rne tworke d BACne t
LANs . It cannot match othe r BACne t Ne twork Numbe rs (Ethe rne t LANs, MS /TP
LANs , ARCNET LANs, e tc.) De fault is 1.
H. IP Addre s s nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn The IP addre s s as s igne d to this de vice in dotte d-de cimal format. nnn is a numbe r
from 0-255. Follow IP addressing conve ntions and rule s for your ne twork. De fault
is 000.000.000.000, which pre ve nts IP operation when IP Enable d = Y.
Value TOS bits Description
0 0000 Default
1 0001 Minimize monetary cost
2 0010 Maximize reliability
4 0100 Maximize throughput
8 1000 Minimize delay
15 1111 Maximize security
