C. Product Selection - Performance and Sizing Guidelines
1. The following guidelines apply to residential systems only. For commercial or institutional installations contact the factory directly for
assistance.
2. Determine the quanity of domestic hot water required. Factors to consider:
a. Estimate typical peak hour demand. Determine the general time of day (morning, noon, evening) when the most hot water is used.
Use chart below to determine potential maximum usage.
NOTE: The table below describes the minimum BTU/H required to achieve the listed rst hour rating. The mass of the boiler will aect recovery
time. More boiler mass equals longer recovery time.
b. Estimate unusual peak draw demand. Whirlpool baths, hot tubs, and multiple head showers require large quantities of hot water in a
short period of time. Contact xture manufacturer for quantity of water required. Generally speaking, these circumstances can only be
met with larger storage volumes.
c. Domestic Water Temperature - Most residential usage will be satised with 119
o
F water, the temperature setting recommended by the
Consumer Product Safety Commission. Some applications such as laundry and dishwashers may require a higher temperature.
Ratings can be improved by increasing the thermostat setting and using a mixing valve to temper the hot water to the proper
temperature. When temperatures greater than 119
o
F are required, use a mixing valve at the outlet of the water heater or anti-scald
ttings at points of use.

D. Anode Rod
This water heater is equipped with magnesium anode rods. Anode rods are sacricial components that counteract water chemistry to minimize
or eliminate tank corrosion.
The anode rods should be inspected at least annually and replaced as necessary to prolong tank life. Have the supply water quality professionally
analyzed, as local water conditions will inuence the duration for inspection and replacement of the anode rod.
Some installation conditions necessitate more frequent inspection of the anode rods. The use of a water softener may increase the speed of
anode consumption. For example, more frequent inspection of the anode is needed when using softened or treated water.
Water with high sulfate and/or mineral content can produce a rotten egg odor in heated water. Chlorinating the water supply may minimize
this problem.
NOTE: Failure of a heat exchanger due to lime scale build-up on the heating surface, low pH, or other imbalance IS NOT covered by the
warranty.
NOTE: Do not remove anode rods from an operating water heater. Operating the water heater without anode rods will shorten the life of the
tank and VOID the warranty.
NOTE: If anode rods are rapidly consumed water chemistry should be tested by a qualied technician. Corrective action should be taken to
prevent the premature failure of the water heating system. Operating the water heater with fully consumed anode rods will shorten the life of
the tank and VOID the warranty.
