Therefore, we recommend to preheat the battery before the starting
procedure by spinning of the starter (2-3 times for 2-3 sec.) without switched
on magnetos.
Once the engine is rotating with a sufficient rpm, the starting procedure can
be accomplished as usually. (switching on the fuel pump, magnetos and
choke)
If an optional LiFe start-up battery is installed at the factory, an overvoltage
protection (OVP) is installed at the factory with the C42, which prevents
excessive charging voltage. An automatic disconnection of the charging
current is displayed by the charging control lamp. To close the charging
circuit again activate the reset button beside the charging control lamp or will
happen automatically when reaching a voltage of approx. 12 V. Repeated
light up of the control lamp signifies an error of the controller and you have
to approach directly the next airfield.
From Ser.No. 1809-7555, a charge controller with integrated automatic
overvoltage protection (OVP) is installed as standard. This design
eliminates the previously mentioned reset button, which had to be pressed
by the pilot if the OVP was triggered.
