PRESSER FOOT SHOE CHART
1) THICKNESS OF SHOES—
THICK: approximately .020" (0.5mm) thick, for medium to
heavy weight materials that require heavy presser
foot pressure.
THIN: approximately .014" (0.35mm) thick, for light to
medium weight materials, that require light
presser foot pressure and when marking of the
material by the shoes and/or feed dogs is a
problem.
2) WIDTH OF SHOES—
NARROW: for medium heavy to heavy weight materials.
MEDIUM: for medium weight materials.
WIDE: for light weight materials.
3) SPACING BETWEEN INSIDE OF SHOES—
AVAILABLE SPACINGS:
1/64" (0.4mm) spacing——
Very light materials
1/32" (0.9mm) to 1/16" (1.6mm) spacing——
Lightweight materials
5/64" (2mm) to 3/32" (2.4mm) spacing——
Medium weight materials
5/32" (4mm) to 3/16" (4.8mm) spacing——
Heavy weight materials
4) LENGTH OF TOE—
SHORT TOE: The front part of the toe extends past
the front of the presser foot by approximately 3/64"
(1mm). This is a good all around shoe that adapts
easily to a variety of operations, and is also good
for sewing curves and corners.
EXTENDED TOE: The front of the toe extends past the
front of the presser foot approximately 3/16"(4.7mm).
This shoe has more feeding surface to the front of
the presser foot than the short toe and is ideal for
long flat seams. For many operations it also allows
the operator to start the material without lifting the
presser foot.
5) SHOE FINISHES—
HIGH POLISHED FINISH: For most general sewing
operations. Steel is polished so that surface is
smooth and free of tool marking for easy feeding and
less drag on the material.
NICKLON COATING: For hard to feed materials and
surfaces. Steel is polished so that surface is smooth
and free of tool markings and then treated with a
special hard and slippery Nicklon coating to allow the
material to feed much smoother and easier than the
standard High Polished Finish.
