wet cleaned. Use a carpet-cleaning extractor, wet/dry shop vacuum, or
air movers to speed drying.
Note: In the moist marine environment, the presence of organic
materials, such as food particles or drink spills, can encourage the
growth of molds and mildew. Prompt removal of organic materials is
the first line of defense against the growth of mold and mildew on all
Manitou surfaces, including carpeting.
If a spill occurs, clean it as soon as possible in order to avoid staining.
Absorb as much of the spill as possible with white towels, blotting until
no more of the spill’s color transfers to the towel. Then, if any stain
remains, mix one-half teaspoon of clear dishwashing liquid with one
quart of water. Do not use dishwashing liquid that contains lanolin or
hand lotions. Spray the mixture on the spot, blot, and rinse thoroughly
with clean water.
Note: Avoid using too much dishwashing detergent in the suggested
cleaning solution, as its residue can contribute to rapid re-soiling of
the area to which it has been applied.
For non-water-soluble stains such as grease, oil, or chewing gum, blot as
much of the spilled material as possible with paper towels. If needed,
apply an appropriate solvent designed for grease removal, following the
label instructions carefully. Do not use flammable solvents, and provide
adequate ventilation and skin and eye protection at all times. Use the
appropriate solvent sparingly so that it will not be absorbed by the carpet
backing or adhesive. Once the stain has been removed, rinse the area
with clean water, and then blot or extract any remaining moisture.
Note: Shaw’s R2x Stain and Soil Remover product, included in the
Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) certification program for spotting
products, is recommended for all spots and spills that do not require
a solvent-based cleaner for oils and greases. Additional spot removal
products certified in the CRI Seal of Approval Program are
recommended and can be found at www.carpet-rug.org.
