Cold Weather or Extended Storage Draining Instructions
CAUTION
If Power Package will not be used for an extended period of time or will be exposed
to freezing temperatures, drain water from seawater section of cooling system.
Water MUST BE drained to prevent corrosion and freeze damage to engine.
CAUTION
If boat is to remain in the water, seacock, if so equipped, must remain closed until
engine is to be restarted to prevent water from flowing back into seawater cooling
system. If boat is not fitted with a seacock, water inlet hose must be disconnected
and plugged to prevent water from flowing into cooling system and/or boat. As a
precautionary measure, attach a tag to the ignition switch or steering wheel with the
warning that the seacock must be opened or the water inlet hose reconnected prior
to starting the engine.
IMPORTANT: Mercury MerCruiser recommends that propylene glycol antifreeze (a
nontoxic and environmentally safe) antifreeze be used in seawater section of the
cooling system for cold weather or extended storage. Make sure that the propylene
glycol antifreeze contains a rust inhibitor and is recommended for use in marine en-
gines. Be certain to follow the propylene glycol manufacturer’s recommendations.
IMPORTANT: Observe the following information to ensure complete draining of cool-
ing system:
• Engine must be as level as possible.
• A wire should be repeatedly inserted into all drain holes to ensure there are no
obstructions in passages.
IMPORTANT: Drain seawater section of closed cooling system only.
