Bronchoalveolar lavage
Using the BAL (bronchoalveolar lavage) kit
Using a syringe
Angled or incomplete insertion may result in leakage of solution from the valve.
1 Disconnect the suction tube from the suction
valve. Connect the suction tube to the suction
connector of a commercially available BAL kit.
Connect the BAL kit’s suction line to the suction
connector of the suction valve.

2 Securely insert a syringe filled with lavage fluid (e.g., saline) into the slit of the biopsy
valve and press the plunger to feed lavage fluid.
3 Depress the suction valve to aspirate lavage fluid.
