CHAPTER 2: OPERATION
2.1 Turning the instrument on/off
Once the battery has been installed, РМ1401MA will turn ON
automatically. If the battery was already installed and the instrument is in
the OFF mode, then press and hold the MODE button to power it on. All
display segments and alarms will be activated for 1 second and the unit will then perform its
self-test procedures.
To turn the instrument OFF, press and hold the LIGHT button for
about 7 to 9 seconds until the LCD displays the blinking “OFF” message.
Then, release the LIGHT button (in case Quick shut down is enabled in
instrument’s settings) or additionally press the MODE button to confirm shutdown. The
instrument is switched off when the LCD displays the “OFF” message.
2.2 Installation of the external vibrator
The PM1401MA is equipped with internal audio and light alarms (built-in). Optionally,
PM1401MA can be supplied with an external alarm vibrator. It allows searching for radiation
sources in highly noisy environment and/or performing a hidden search, when audio alarm is
disabled.
The vibrator’s cable has a secure push/pull connector to hold into the position. To
connect the vibrator, locate the port on the bottom of the PM1401MA, as depicted by item 1
in figure below. Guide the connector until it locks to the position. To disconnect the
connector, grasp the outer knurled sleeve (item 2), and pull straight back (item 3).
Caution! Handle the external vibrator cable only by the outer knurled sleeve on the
connector. Avoid pulling or twisting on the external vibrator’s flexible cable. Doing so can damage
the connector or PM1401MA port.
The external vibrator is also equipped with additional band to hold it secure on the
wrist to perform hidden search. Please see pictures below for guidance.
