Basic Recording with the VS-880
Welcome to the VS-880 Supplemental Notes on Basic Recording. We hope that you will find this
document a friendly user guide on many of the common functions associated with recording and editing.
The VS-880 offers a great deal of functionality, and with a little practice, you will be able to utilize it fully
Ð allowing you to make great sounding recordings that you can master directly from the VS-880.
I. FRONT PANEL LAYOUT
First, letÕs get familiar with how the VS-880 is laid out. From the front panel, you can tell that there are
physical distinctions that help define the internal components. The left half of the VS-880 is the Mixer
section. Here we can control the recorded volume levels with the Faders, pan position (left to right speaker)
of each Track with the PAN knobs, the Input volume of an instrument or voice with the INPUT SENS knobs,
muting and soloing of Tracks with the STATUS buttons, MIXER MODE, and a lot more that we will get into
later.

The right half of the VS-880 is the Recorder section. Here, we have the transport controls (STOP, PLAY,
FF, REW, REC, etc.), the LOCATOR controls for setting markers and locate points, punch points, etc., and
global EDIT CONDITION buttons that allow us to access the various edit functions. We will discuss these in
more depth later on.
The other important components of the right side of the VS-880 are the PLAY/DISPLAY button, the SHIFT
button, the CURSOR buttons and the PARAMETER buttons. These are the buttons that you will most likely
use in some combination for nearly every operation you do on the VS-880.
