User Perspective for Borrowing a License
Borrowing a license is a special feature of the concurrent license. If the
administrator allows this feature in the setup.ini, it permits a license to
be taken out of the constantly changing group of used and unused
licenses for a set period of time. This period of time is also specified by
the administrator in the setup.ini.
When a teacher or student borrows a license, that license stays
with the client machine and does not need to access the network
when the user runs the application.
The benefit is that the user can run the software when away from the
network, such as when a teacher is at a conference.
The negative is that the license does not return to the group of unused
licenses when the user closes the application. The used license is
unavailable to anyone else until either it is returned or the time limit of
the borrowed license has expired.
When the borrowing term has expired, the license is automatically
returned to the group of unused licenses, ready to be used by the next
client. The machine that has the expired license will not be able to run
the application again until it can access the network.
Borrowing a License
Complete the following steps to borrow and return a license.
1. Click Help > Manage Subscription > Borrow License.
This submenu is only available if running a concurrent subscription
and the admin has allowed borrowing of licenses by settings in the
setup.ini.
