InspectingtheBlade
ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily
Carefullyexaminethebladeforsharpnessandwear,
especiallywheretheatandthecurvedpartsmeet
(Figure34A).Becausesandandabrasivematerialcan
wearawaythemetalthatconnectstheatandcurved
partsoftheblade,checkthebladebeforeusingthe
mower.Ifyounoticeaslotorwear(Figure34Band
Figure34C),replacetheblade;refertoRemovingthe
Blade.

Note:Forthebestperformance,installanewblade
beforethecuttingseasonbegins.Duringtheyear,le
downanysmallnickstomaintainthecuttingedge.
Awornordamagedbladecanbreak,anda
pieceofthebladecouldbethrownintothe
operator’sorbystander’sarea,resultingin
seriouspersonalinjuryordeath.
•Inspectthebladeperiodicallyforwearor
damage.
•Replaceawornordamagedblade.
RemovingtheBlade
Grasptheendofthebladeusingaragorathickly
paddedglove.Removethebladenuts,theanti-scalpcup,
andtheblade(Figure33).
SharpeningtheBlade
Filethetopsideofthebladetomaintainitsoriginal
cuttingangle(Figure35A)andinnercuttingedgeradius
(Figure35B).Thebladewillremainbalancedifyou
removethesameamountofmaterialfrombothcutting
edges.
