Cold Engine Operations
1.
INSPECT DRIVE BELTS
(a) Visually check the drive belts for cracks, oiliness or
wear. Check that the be lt does not touch the bottom
of the pulley groove.
If necessary, replace the drive be lt.
(b) Using a belt tension gauge, check the drive belt ten-

NOTE: When check ing the tension, be sure the gauge is
on the belt protrusions.

I f necessary. adjust the drive belt tension.
2. REPLACE DRIVE BELTS
( a) Remove the o ld belts.

Install a new belt and adjust it to the specified ten-
sion.

belt tension gauge, check the drive belt ten -

• When checking the tens i on, be sure the gauge is on the
belt protrusions.
• "New bel t" refers to a belt which has been used less
than 5 minutes on a running engine.
• "Used belt " refers to a belt which has been used on a
running engine
for 5 minutes or more.
• After replacing the dr ive bel t, check that it fits proper ly
in the ribbed grooves, especially in the places diff i cu lt to
see.
3. INSPECT VACUUM PUMP OIL HOSES
(a) Visually check for oil leakage.
(b) Check the hoses for l oose or bad connections.
(c) Check the hoses for damage or cracks.
Squeeze the hoses to check for internal breakdown .
If soft , replace.
