• Inspecttheunitbeforeuse.Replacedamagedparts.Checkforfuelleaks.Makesureallfasteners
areinplaceandsecure.Replacepartsthatarecracked,chipped,ordamagedinanyway.Donot
operatetheunitwithlooseordamagedparts.
• Carefullyinspecttheareabeforestartingtheunit.Removealldebrisandhardorsharpobjectssuch
asglass,wire,etc.
• Cleartheareaofchildren,bystanders,andpets.Ataminimum,keepallchildren,bystanders,and
petsoutsidea50feet(15m.)radius;therestillmaybearisktobystandersfromthrownobjects.
Bystandersshouldbeencouragedtoweareyeprotection.Ifyouareapproached,stoptheunit
immediately.
• Squeezethethrottlecontrolandcheckthatitreturnsautomaticallytotheidleposition.Makeall
adjustmentsorrepairsbeforeusingunit.
• Neverstoretheunit,withfuelinthetank,insideabuildingwherefumesmayreachanopename
(pilotlights,etc.)orsparks(switches,electricalmotors,etc.).
• Allowtheenginetocoolbeforestoringortransporting.Besuretosecuretheunitwhiletransporting.
• Storetheunitinadryplace,eitherlockeduporuphightopreventunauthorizeduseordamage.
Keepoutofthereachofchildren.
• Neverdouseorsquirttheunitwithwateroranyotherliquid.Keephandlesdry,clean,andfreefrom
debris.Cleanaftereachuse,seeCleaningandStorageinstructions.
• Keeptheseinstructions.Refertothemoftenandusethemtoinstructotherusers.Ifyouloanthis
unittoothers,alsoloantheseinstructionstothem.
• WearsafetyglassesorgogglesthataremarkedasmeetingANSIZ87.1–1989standardsandare
markedassuch.Wearear/hearingprotectionwhenoperatingthisunit.
• Neverruntheunitwithoutthetheproperequipmentattached.
• Toreducetheriskofhearinglossassociatedwithsoundlevel(s),alwayswearear/hearingprotection
whenoperatingthisunit.
• Wearheavylongpants,boots,gloves,andalongsleeveshirt.Donotwearlooseclothing,jewelry,
shortpants,sandalsorgobarefoot.Securehairaboveshoulderlevel.
• Usetheunitonlyindaylightorgoodarticiallight.
• Keepoutsidesurfacesfreefromoilandfuel.
• Avoidaccidentalstarting.Beinthestartingpositionwheneverpullingthestarterrope.Theoperator
andunitmustbeinastablepositionwhilestarting.RefertoStarting/StoppingInstructions.
• Donotsetunitonanysurfaceexceptaclean,hardareawhileengineisrunning.Debrissuchas
gravel,sand,dust,grass,etc.couldbepickedupbytheairintakeandthrownoutbythedischarge
opening,damagingunit,property,orcausingseriousinjurytobystandersoroperator.
• Usetherighttool.Onlyusethistoolforitsintendedpurpose.
• Donotforceunit.Itwilldothejobbetterandwithlesslikelihoodofinjuryatarateforwhichitwas
designed.
• Donotoverreachorusefromunstablesurfacessuchasladders,trees,steepslopes,rooftops,etc.
Alwayskeepproperfootingandbalance.
• Alwaysholdtheunitwitharmgripwhenoperating.
• Keephands,face,andfeetawayfromallmovingparts.Donottouchortrytostoptheimpellerwhenit
isrotating.Donotoperatewithoutguardsinplace.
RULES FOR SAFE OPERATION
• Donotputanyobjectintoopenings.Donotusewithanyopeningblocked;keepfreeofdirt,debris,
andanythingthatmayreducetheairow.
• Donottouchtheengineormufer.Thesepartsgetextremelyhotfromoperation,evenaftertheunit
isturnedoff.
• Donotoperatetheenginefasterthanthespeedneededtodothejob.Donotruntheengineathigh
speedwhennotinuse.
• Alwaysstoptheenginewhenoperationisdelayedorwhenwalkingfromonelocationtoanother.
• Useonlygenuinefactoryreplacementpartsandaccessoriesforthisunit.Theseareavailablefrom
yourauthorizedservicedealer.Useofanyunauthorizedpartsoraccessoriescouldleadtoserious
injurytotheuserordamagetotheunit,andvoidyourwarranty.
• Ifyoustrikeorcomeintocontactwithaforeignobject,stoptheengineimmediatelyandcheckfor
damage.Donotoperatebeforerepairingdamage.Donotoperatetheunitwithlooseordamaged
parts.
• Toreducerehazard,replacefaultymuferandsparkarrestor.Keeptheengineandmuferfreefrom
grass,leaves,excessivegreaseorcarbonbuildup.
OIL AND FUEL SAFETY
• Storefuelonlyincontainersspecicallydesignedandapprovedforthestorageofsuchmaterials.
• Alwaysstoptheengineandallowittocoolbeforellingthefueltank.Neverremovethefueltank
caporaddfuelwhentheengineishot.Neveroperatetheunitwithoutthefuelcapsecurelyin
place.
• Alwaysmixoraddfuelinaclean,well-ventilatedoutdoorareawheretherearenosparksor
ames.Donotsmoke.
• NeverOperatetheunitwithoutthefuelcapsecurelyinplace.
• Avoidcreatingasourceofignitionforspilledfuel.Wipeupanyspilledfuelfromtheunit
immediatelybeforestartingtheunit.Movetheunitatleast30feet(9.1m)fromthefuelingsource
andsitebeforestartingtheunit.Donotsmoke.
• Neverstartorruntheunitinsideaclosedroomorbuilding.Breathingexhaustfumescanbefatal.
Operatethisunitonlyinawell-ventilatedoutdoorarea.
• Checktheunitforfuelleaks.
• Loosenthefueltankcapslowlytorelieveanypressureinthetank.
• Neverstoretheunitwithfuelinthetank,insideabuildingwherefumesmayreachanopename
(pilotlights,etc.)orsparks(switches,electricalmotors,etc.).
• Toreducerehazard,replaceafaultymuferandsparkarrestor.Keeptheengineandmuferfree

BLOWER SAFETY
• Stoptheengineformaintenance,repair,toinstallorremovetheblowertubes.Theunitmustbe
stoppedandtheimpellernolongerturningtoavoidcontactwiththerotatingblades.
• Neverpointtheblowerinthedirectionofbystanders,animals,windowsorautomobiles.
