CHECKING THE BRAKE PAD WEAR
Carefully read p. 22 (BRAKE FLUID -
recommendations), p. 22 (DISC
BRAKES) and p. 39 (MAINTENANCE).
The following information refer to a sin-
gle braking system, but are valid for
both.
Remember: 1 mile = 1.6 km
1 km = 0.625 miles
Check the brake pad wear after the first
1000 km and successively every 4000 km.
The wear of the brake pads depends on
the use, on the kind of drive and on the
road.
The wear is greater when the vehicle is
used on dusty or wet roads and off road
Check the brake pads before
every trip.
To carry out a rapid checking of the wear of
the pads, proceed as follows:
◆
Position the vehicle on the stand.
◆
Carry out a visual checking between the
brake caliper and the pads.Proceed:
– from the front upper part for the front
brake caliper (1);
– from the rear upper part for the rear
brake caliper (2).
◆
If the thickness of the friction material
(even of one pad only) has reduced to
about 1 mm, replace both pads.

ADJUSTING
THE COLD START CONTROL (

p. 39 (MAINTENANCE).
The ideal slack of the cold start control
should be about 2 ÷ 3 mm.
To adjust the slack, proceed as follows:
◆
Position the vehicle on the stand.
◆
Move to the left side of the vehicle.
DO NOT withdraw the accelera-
tor cable protection element (3).
◆
Withdraw the protection element (4).
◆
Loosen the nut (5)(by screwing it).
◆
Act on the adjuster (6) positioned on the
carburettor.
After the adjustment:
◆
Tighten the nut (5) (by turning it anti-
clockwise), thus locking the adjuster (6)
and put back the protection element (4).
