IMPORTANT:Thisunit isshippedwithoutgasolineoroil inthe engine.
Becertaintoserviceenginewithgasolineandoilasinstructedinthis
sectionbeforestartingor runningyourmachine.
Oil (one 18 ounce bottle shipped with unit)
FirstTime Use
1. Removeoil fill dipstick(G). SeeFigure13.
2. Withthe moweron levelground,emptyentirecontentsofoil bottle
providedintothe engineoil fill (H).
3. Replaceoil fill dipstickandtighten.
Subsequent Uses
Use4-strokemotoroil thatmeetsor exceedsthe requirementsfor API
servicecategorySF,SG,SH,SJor later.Alwayscheckthe APIservice
labelontheoilcontainertobe sureitincludesthe lettersSF,SG,SH,
SJor later.
Outdoortemperaturesdeterminetheproperoilviscosityfortheengine.
Usethechartto selectthe bestviscosityfor the outdoortemperature
rangeexpected.

**Above80°F(27°C)theuseof 10W-30maycauseincreasedoil
consumption.Checkoil levelmorefrequently.
1. Checktheoil withtheenginestoppedand level.
2. Removethe oil fill dipstickandwipeit clean.
3. Insertandtightenthe oilfill dipstick.Removeittocheckthe oil
level.SeeFigure13.
4. Iftheoil levelis nearor belowthe lowerlimitmarkonthedipstick,
removetheoil filldipstick,andfillwiththe recommendedoil to the
upperlimitmark(J). Donotoverfill.
5. Reinstalltheoilfilldipstick.
Gasoline
Donotuse unapprovedgasolines,suchasE85.Do not mixoil in
Igasolineor modifyengineto runonalternatefuels.Thiswill damage
_theenginecomponentsandvoid the engine warranty.
Fuelmustmeet these requirements:
• Clean,fresh,unleadedgasoline.

• A minimumof 87 octane/87AKI(91RON).
• Gasolinewith upto 10%ethanol(gasohol)or upto 15%MTBE
(methyltertiarybutylether)isacceptable.
Refuelina well-ventilatedareawiththeenginestopped.Ifthe engine
hasbeenrunning,allowitto cool first.Neverrefueltheengineinsidea
buildingwheregasolinefumesmayreachflamesor sparks.

Gasolineishighlyflammableandexplosive,andyoucanbe
burnedor seriouslyinjuredwhenrefueling.Stopengineand keep
heat,sparks,and flameaway.Refuelonly outdoors.Wipeupspills
immediately.
Ifyourequipmentwill be usedonan infrequentorintermittentbasis,
pleasereferto the Off SeasonStoragesectionforadditionalinforma-
tion regardingfueldeterioration.
NOTE:Fuelcandamagepaintand sometypesof plastic.Becareful
notto spill fuelwhenfilling yourfueltank.
Neverusestaleorcontaminatedgasolineoroil/gasolinemixture.
Avoidgettingdirt orwaterin the fueltank.
1. Removethe fuel tankcap.
2. Fillthefueltankwithfuel.To allowforexpansionof the fuel,do
notfill abovethebottomofthefuel tankneck.Donotoverfill.
Wipeupspilledfuel beforestartingtheengine.
3. Installthe fuel tankcapandtightenituntilit clicks.
4. Movelawnmoweratleast10feet awayfromthefuelcontainer/
sourceandsitebeforestartingthe engine.
Besurenooneotherthantheoperatorisstandingnearthelawn
mowerwhilestartingengineoroperatingmower.Neverrunengine
indoorsorin enclosed,poorlyventilatedareas.Engineexhaust
containscarbonmonoxide,an odorlessanddeadlygas.Keephands,
feet,hairand looseclothingawayfromany movingpartson engine
andlawnmower.
