DECK WASH
Yourmower'sdeckis equippedwitha waterport on itssurfaceaspart
ofits deckwashsystem.
Usethedeckwashtorinsegrassclippingsfromthe deck'sunderside
andpreventthe buildupof corrosivechemicals.Completethe following
stepsAFTEREACHMOWING:
1. Pushthemowertoa level,clearspotonyour lawn,nearenough
foryourgardenhoseto reach.Ifattached,removethe grassbag.
house,garage,parkedcars,etc.
2. Threadthehosecoupler(packagedwithyourmower'sOperator's
Manual)onto theendofyourgardenhose.
3. Attachthehosecouplertothewaterportonyourdeck'ssurface.See
Figure19.
4. Turnthewateron.
5. StarttheengineasdescribedintheOperationsection.
6. Runtheenginefora minimumoftwominutes,allowingtheunderside
ofthecuttingdeckto thoroughlyrinse.
7. Releasebladecontrolto stopthe engineandblade.
8. Turnthewateroffanddetachthehosecouplerfromthewaterporton
yourdeck'ssurface.
Aftercleaningyourdeck, restartthe mower.Keepthe engineand
bladerunningfora minimumoftwominutes,allowingthe undersideof
thecuttingdeckto thoroughlydry.
BLADE CARE
Whenremovingthecutting bladefor sharpeningor replacement,
protectyourhandswitha pairofheavyglovesor usea heavyragto
holdthe blade.
Periodicallyinspectthebladeadapterforcracks,especiallyifyou
strikea foreignobject. Replacewhennecessary.Followthe steps
belowfor bladeservice.
1. Disconnectsparkplugbootfromsparkplug.Turnmoweronitsside
makingsurethatthe airfilterandthe carburetorarefacingup.
2. Removetheboltandthebladebellsupportwhichholdthebladeand
thebladeadaptertotheenginecrankshaft.SeeFigure20.
3. Removebladeandadapterfromthecrankshaft.
4. Removebladefromtheadapterfortestingbalance.Balancetheblade
ona roundshaftscrewdrivertocheck.Removemetalfromthe
heavysideuntil it balancesevenly.Whensharpeningthe blade,
followtheoriginalangleofgrind.Grindeachcuttingedgeequally
tokeepthe bladebalanced.
Anunbalancedbladewillcauseexcessivevibrationwhenrotatingat
highspeeds.It maycausedamageto mowerandcouldbreakcausing
personalinjury.

5. Lubricatetheenginecrankshaftandtheinnersurfaceoftheblade
adapterwithlightoil.Slidethebladeadapterontothe engine
crankshaft.Placethebladeon theadaptersuchthatthesideof
theblademarked"Bottom"(orwithpart number)facestheground
whenthe moweris in the operatingposition.Makesurethatthe
bladeisalignedandseatedon thebladeadapterflanges.See
Figure19inset.
6. Placebladebellsupporton theblade.Alignnotchesonthe blade
bellsupportwithsmallholesin blade.
7. Replacehexboltandtightenhex bolttotorque:450in.Ibs.rain.,
600 in.Ibs.max.
Toensuresafeoperationof yourmower,periodicallycheckthe blade
boltfor correcttorque.
