PreparingTheEngine
IM PORTANT: Fuelleft inthefueltankduringwarmweatherdeterioratesand
will causeseriousstartingproblems.
Topreventgumdepositsfromforminginsidetheengine'scarburetorandcausing
possiblemalfunctionoftheengine,thefuelsystemmustbeeithercompletely
emptied,orthegasolinemustbetreatedwith astabilizertopreventdeterioration.
I. Ifusingafuelstabilizer:
a. Readtheproductmanufacturer'sinstructionsandrecommendations.
b. Addtoclean,freshgasolinethecorrectamountofstabilizerfor the
capadtyofthefuelsystem.
c. Fillthefueltankwith treatedfuelandruntheenginefor2-3minutesto
getstabilizedfuelintothecarburetor.
2. Ifemptyingthefuelsystem:
a. Donotdrainfuelwhentheengineishot.Allowtheengineadequate
timeto cool.Drainfuelintoanapprovedcontaineroutdoors,awayfrom
openflame.
b. Drainanylargevolumeof fuelfromthetankbydisconnectingthe
fuellinefromthe in-linefuelfilter neartheengine.Seethecomplete
instructionsforDrainingTheFuellaterin thissection.
Gasolineisextremely flammableand canbeexplosiveundercertain
conditions. Draingasolinebeforestoring theequipment for extended
periods.Drainfuelonly into anapprovedcontaineroutdoors,awayfrom
anopenflame.Allowengineto cool.Extinguishcigarettes,cigars,pipes,
and othersourcesof ignitionpriorto draining fuel. Storegasolineinan
approvedcontainerin safelocation.
c. Reconnectthefuellineandruntheengineuntil it startsto falter,then
usethechoketokeeptheenginerunninguntilallfuelinthecarburetor
hasbeenexhausted.
d. Disconnectthefuellineanddrainanyremaininggasolinefromthe
system.
DrainingTheFuel
1. Locatethefuelfilter,whichis locatedonthe left sideoftheengine,andmay
beattachedtotheenginewith a tiestrap.
2. Cutthetie strap,if present,thenpinchthe in-lineclamponthefuelfilter
with a pairof pliers,slidetheclampupthefuelline.
3. Pullthefuellinefreefromthefilterandplacetheopenendofthelineinto
anapprovedcontainerto drainthefuel.

Cleanandlubricatetractorthoroughlyasdescribedinthelubrication
instructions.
2. Donotusea pressurewasherorgardenhoseto cleanyourunit.
3. Storemowerinadry,cleanarea.Donotstorenexttocorrosivematerials,
suchasfertilizer.
Gasolineisa toxic substance.Disposeof gasolineproperly.Contactyour
localauthoritiesfor approveddisposalmethods.
3. Removethesparkplugandpourone(1)ounceofengineoil throughthespark
plugholeintothecylinder.Crankthe engineseveraltimesto distributethe
oil. Replacethesparkplug.
