Withthe ignitionkeyintheNORMALMOWINGposition,the PTO(Blade
Engage)clutchwill automaticallyshutoff ifthePTO(BladeEngage)leveris
movedintotheengaged(ON)positionwith thedrivepedalin positionfor
reversetravel.
Donot operatethetractor ifthe interlocksystemismalfunctioning.This
systemwasdesignedfor yoursafety andprotection.
Engagingthe ParkingBrake
Toengagethe parkingbrake:
1. Fullydepressthe brakepedalandholdit downwith yourfoot.
2. Movethespeedcontrolleverallthewaydownandintotheparkingbrake
position.
3. Releasethebrakepedalto allowtheparkingbraketoengage.
Toreleasethe parkingbrake:
1. Depressthebrakepedalandmovethespeedcontrolleveroutoftheparking
brakepositionandintoadesiredspeed.
Settingthe Cutting Height
1. Selecttheheightpositionof thecuttingdeckbyplacingthedecklift leverin
anyof thedifferentcuttingheightnotchesontheright sideofthefender.
2. Adjustthedeckwheelssothat theyarebetween14-inchand1/2-inchabove
thegroundwhenthetractorisonasmooth,flat surfacesuchasa driveway.
To adjust Deck Wheels:
1. Removetheflangelocknutontheshoulderboltsecuringthedeckwheel.
2. Positionthewheelto thedesiredheightaslistedabove.SeeFigure8.

Securetheshoulderboltwith theflangelocknut.
Keephandsandfeet away from the dischargeopening of the cutting
deck.
NOTE:Thedeckwheelsareananti-scalpfeatureof thedeckandarenotdesigned
tosupporttheweightofthecuttingdeck.Referto LevelingintheMaintenanceand
Servicesectionof thismanualformoredetailedinstructionsregardingvariousdeck
adjustments.
Starting the Engine
Donotoperatethe tractor ifthe interlocksystemismalfunctioning. This
systemwasdesignedfor yoursafetyand protection.
NOTE:Referto theGasolineandOilfill-up instructionsearlierinthissection.
1. Insertthetractorkeyintotheignitionswitch.
2. PlacethePTO(BladeEngage)leverinthedisengaged(OFF)position.
3. Engagethetractor'sparkingbrake.
4. Activatethechokecontrolbymovingthethrottle/chokeleverallthewayup
intothechokeposition.
5. TurntheignitionkeyclockwisetotheSTARTposition.Aftertheenginestarts,
releasethekey.It will returntotheON(orNormalMowing)position.
DoNOThold the key in the STARTposition for longer than ten seconds
at a time. Doingso maycause damageto your engine's electric
starter.
6. Aftertheenginestarts,deactivatethechokecontrolandplacethethrottle
controlintheFASTposition.
NOTE:DoNOTleavethechokecontrolonwhileoperatingthetractor.Doingsowill
resultina"rich"fuelmixtureandcausetheengineto run poorly.
Stopping the Engine
If you strike a foreign object, stop the engine, disconnect the spark
plug wire(s) and ground against the engine. Thoroughly inspectthe
machine for any damage. Repairthe damagebefore restarting and
operating
1. Ifthebladesareengaged,placethePTO(BladeEngage)leverin the
disengaged(OFF)position.
2. Turntheignitionkeycounterclockwiseto theSTOPposition.
3. Removethekeyfromtheignitionswitchto preventunintendedstarting.
Driving TheTractor
Avoidsuddenstarts,excessivespeedand suddenstops.
Donotleavethe seatofthe tractor without first placingthe PTO(Blade
Engage)leverinthe disengaged(OFF)position,depressingthe brakepedal
andengagingthe parkingbrake.If leaving thetractor unattended,also
turn the ignition keyoff and removethe key.
