TROUBLESHOOTING
SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSE
Starter motor will not operate • Shift handle not in NEUTRAL.
• Fuse blown. Refer to Fuse on page 29.
• Battery is dead.
Engine will not start • Not following starting instructions. Refer to En-
gine Starting on page 20.
• Fuel tank empty.
• Fuel hose kinked.
• Fuel system contaminated with water or dirt.
• Fuel filter obstructed.
• Throttle not at IDLE. Return throttle to IDLE.
• Spark plugs incorrect. Refer to
Spark Plugs on
page 38.
• Spark plugs improperly gapped, carboned,
burned, or wet.
• Fuse blown. Refer to
Fuse on page 29.
• Flashing “Water Temp” or hot light, refer to En-
gine Monitoring on page 17 and Engine Over-
heating
on page 19.
• Flashing “Check Engine” or “Chk Eng” light, refer
to
Engine Monitoring on page 17.
Engine will not idle properly • Debris on propeller.
• Spark plugs damaged or incorrect. Refer to
Spark Plugs on page 38.
• Fuel system contaminated with water or dirt.
Engine loses power • Spark plugs damaged or incorrect. Refer to
Spark Plugs on page 38.
• Fuel filter obstructed.
• Fuel system contaminated with water or dirt.
• Water intakes obstructed and cooling system not
operating correctly. Refer to
Engine Overheating
on page 19.
• Oiling system malfunction.
• S.A.F.E. protection mode activated. Refer to
En-
gine Monitoring
on page 17.
Engine runs, but makes little or
no progress
• Propeller hub loose, slipping.
• Propeller blades bent or missing.
• Propeller shaft bent.
• Propeller debris.
