cover

master
brake
cylinder
inspection
plate.

Conn
ect
the
accelerator
rod
and
dimmer
switc
h.
Position
the
ru
bber
mat
over
the
brake
pedal
opening
,
then
install
the
peda
l
opening
plate
and
pad.
Fill
the
radiator.
Rem
ove
the
tape
from
the
carbure-
tor
air
horn.
Start
the
en
gine
and
check
for
coolant
and
oil leaks.
In
sta
ll
the
air
cleaner
to
engine
cover
bracket
,
then
install
the
air
cle
a
ner
and
tube.
Install
the
operator's
seat
and
bracket
.
4.
INTAKE AND EXHAUST MANIFOLDS
Th
e foll
owing
insp
ection
procedures
are
ap
plicable
to
new
and
u
sed
manifolds.
a. Cleaning
and
Inspection.
Re
move
the
manifolds
. W
ash
grease, oil, a
nd
dirt
from
the
outside
of
the
manifold.
Cle
an
the
inside
of
the
man
ifold
with
a
round,
bristle
brush
attached
to
a
flexible
wire
handle.
Dry
with
compressed
air.
In
spect
t
he
mating
flanges of
the
intake
manifolds
for
crac
ks, nicks,
burrs
,
or
scratches.
Check
the
flatness of
th
ese
surfaces
as
indicated
in fig. 8.
Check
the
fuel-air
passages
and
the h
eat
riser
for
restrictions.
Check
the
manif
old
openings
for
proper
alignme
nt
with
their
resp
ec
tiv
e
cy
lind
er
h
ead
ports.
Impr
ope
r a
li
gnme
nt
may
result
in a loss of
power.
Insp
ect
the
entire
manifold
for
crac
ks
or
visible
casting
defects
which
wou
ld
make
it
unfit for
further
service
.
In
spect
the
exhaust
manifold
for
burned
out
spots,
crack
s,
and
/o
r
weak
sections.

Repair
s.
Dress
nick
ed
or
warpe
d
mating
s
urf
aces
on
a s
urf
ace
plate.
M
inor
nicks,
burr
s,
or
sc
r
atc
h
es
may
be
removed
with
a
fil
e.
Re
move
all
obstr
u
ctio
ns fr
om
intake
m
anifold
pas-
sages. R
ep
l
ace
c
ra
c
ked
or
severely
warped
manifolds
,
a
nd
those
manifolds
which
contain
unr
emova
ble
obstructions.
Replace
defective
exhau
st
manifolds.

rocker
mechanism.
Ch

k
the
I. D . of
the
rocker
arm
bore
and
the
O. D.
of
the
rocker
arm
shaft,
at
the
location
of
the
rocker
arms,
against
specifi-
cations. Make s
ur
e
th
ese
surfaces
are
free of scuff
s,
scores, nicks,
or
scratches.
Inspe
ct
the
rock
er
arms
for
grooved
pad
s.
Check
the
rocker
a
djusting
scr
ews
and
l
ock
nut
s for
stripped
or
broken
threads,
and
th
e
ban
en
d
of
the
screw
for
nicks
and
scr
atches.
Mak
e
sure
the
adjusting
sc
rew
s
turn
fr
ee
ly
in
the
roc
ker
arms.
In
spect
the
l
ocating
springs
for
crac
ks
or
other
signs
of
fai
lur
e.
In
spect
the
oil
drain
tube
for
crac
ks
or
sh
arp
bends.
Check
the
push
rod
s
between
ball
and
cup
ce
nt
ers
wit
h a
dial
indicator
for
conformance
to
specifications
(fig.
9).
Check
the
ban
end
and
sock
et
end
of
the
push
rods
for
nick
s,
grooves,
or
roughness.
