Introduction You may already
be getting a lot of questions about SYNC, the
collaborative effort between Ford Motor Company
and Microsoft. Before we get into the specifics of
what you’ll need to show your customers, let’s look
at a few basics to give you a foundation for the
exciting details ahead. The information in this
section of the handbook is for vehicles with SYNC
and with navigation systems. For information on
SYNC on vehicles without navigation systems,
please see the first section, SYNC WITHOUT
NAVIGATION.
Important Points to
Understand and Communicate
It’s a good idea to share some important points
regarding SYNC with your customers. First, SYNC
is secure. No one else can access phonebooks or hack
into the system. Also, when SYNC plays music through
the vehicle’s audio system, it does not transfer the
actual music files. Instead, it streams the music
directly from the device, which is made possible by a
procedure called indexing. So there’s no file copying
involved.
As you work with the demonstrations in the Web-based
course, remember that it shows procedures
on a vehicle without a navigation system. Because
the procedure for a vehicle with navigation is different
from what you see in the course, when you need
help, you should refer to this section of the handbook
for SYNC vehicles with navigation systems. For
information on SYNC on vehicles, you can also refer
to the owner guide for the vehicle.

s

Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone or media device.
Important note: This section is a guide to SYNC functions for non-navigation
vehicles. Navigation system instructions can be found in the navigation
s
ystem section of this handbook.
Driving while distracted can result in loss of vehicle control, accident and injury.
F
ord strongly recommends that drivers use extreme caution when using any
device that may take their focus off the road. The driver’s primary responsibility is
the safe operation of the vehicle. Use mobile phones and other devices not
essential to the driving task only when it is safe to do so.
